We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN works to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care (AKC) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction. This position will be permanent RN Relief coverage for up to 3 Alberta Kidney Care dialysis sites in urban or suburban areas around Edmonton. If there is no previous dialysis experience, the candidate must be willing to attend 4 weeks of full-time classroom training followed by a week of Day shifts and then a week of Evening buddy shifts. The candidate must be successful in both the classroom training and buddy shifts to continue in the position.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 years recent Nursing experience required. Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities required. Must have Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Basic computer skills required. The AKC program requires candidates to complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. This training will be full-time for 6 weeks in either Edmonton or Red Deer. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts. Candidates are also required to attend 2-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post). Upon successful completion of the orientation the RN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation - shifts as assigned by Unit Manager on site but may also include the other AKC sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis and or nephrology nursing experience is an asset. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated knowledge of case management is an asset.
