We are seeking an experienced Senior COBOL Developer with a strong background in legacy mainframe systems and tools. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in COBOL II, CICS, and related technologies, and be capable of working in a support-oriented environment with occasional off-hours responsibilities.

Location: Reading, PA

Working location: 3 days on-site, 2 days remote

What will you do?
  • Analyze, debug, and maintain COBOL II Batch and Online (CICS) applications.
  • Utilize CEDF (CICS Execute Debug Facility) for in-depth debugging and issue resolution.
  • Manage code versions and deployments using SCLM (Software Configuration and Library Manager).
  • Work with JCL, VSAM files, and File Manager for data processing and job control.
  • Develop and run reports using Easytrieve.
  • Conduct thorough testing and documentation of code changes and enhancements.
  • Respond to and resolve production support issues, including off-hours and on-call duties.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for issue analysis, resolution, and implementation of enhancements.


Nice to have:
  • Third Party bank confirmation: For the one with HIGH MTTR RTR
  • Exposure to IBM Debugging Tools or equivalent mainframe debuggers.
  • Experience integrating COBOL programs with Oracle/SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with Assembler modules and debugging COBOL programs linked to Assembler routines.

What do you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in mainframe environments with a focus on COBOL II, CICS, and associated tools.
  • Proven ability to handle support responsibilities, including critical off-hours troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
