This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church. This position is responsible for one or more multi-million dollar global Humanitarian projects. The role serves as the face of LDS Charities with global Humanitarian partners/agencies (United Nations, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Red Cross, etc.) in negotiating national contribution levels, developing partnership agreements and providing humanitarian services. The role interfaces directly with Area Presidencies, DTA's and Area Welfare Managers in all 15 international areas to establish and fulfill humanitarian projects. As such this position serves to guide, coordinate and manage all aspects of major humanitarian initiatives for LDS Charities worldwide.

Responsibilities

Initiate and manage global relationships with government leaders and international humanitarian aid agencies. Represent LDS Charities within the global community.

Design, develop, implement and manage global Humanitarian projects

Develop and maintain initiative standards, policies, guidelines to achieve world-class outcomes
  • Coordinate multi-million dollar budgets with international area leadership
  • Interact with area staff to provide support, ensure initiative standards are met and to develop global plans
  • Recruit, train, direct and supervise technical specialists (Church service missionaries/volunteers) to manage projects

Manage relationships with stakeholders in the organization (other Welfare Department entities, International areas, Purchasing, Legal, Travel, Public Affairs, IDSP, etc.)

Ensure ongoing awareness of needs, trends and best practices in the field of international development and relief work.

Qualifications

  • BS degree (Master's preferred) in Business, International Development, Organizational Behavior, Public Health Administration or related studies.
  • 7-10 years previous experience in international management, project management, or related assignments in the field of international development and relief.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with people of different nationalities, cultures and at all levels of organizations.
  • Understanding of applied welfare principles and practical experience implementing them in diverse cultural settings and within Church procedures, legal regulations and international conventions.
  • Ability to effectively and personally represent LDS Charities and the Church to Corporate level executives and ministry level government officials.
  • Proficient in international application of humanitarian aid and relevant LDS Church Humanitarian initiatives
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese or French highly desired.
  • Prefer software product management experience.
