Siemens Government Affairs promotes the company's interests and influences policies and outcomes that impact Siemens' reputation, financial position and ability to operate. As a member of the U.S. Government Affairs federal team, the Director will help shape the company's public policy positions and design and execute government affairs strategies related to trade, geopolitics, economic security, technology policy, investment policy and other areas facing a global technology company operating in every industry sector. Success in the role relies on proactive identification of political, legislative and regulatory risks and opportunities and timely execution of engagement strategies to deliver results.
The Director, Government Affairs will be responsible for working with internal legal and business personnel to develop policies, implement federal stakeholder management across the executive and legislative branches and to drive Siemens engagement with trade and industry associations. The position will ensure Siemens businesses and corporate functions stay up to date on critical and emerging federal government activities, provide analysis of relevant legislation and regulation and develop advocacy plans for engagement with external stakeholders.

We are looking for a Director, Government Affairs. This position will be based in Washington, D.C.
This person will focus on policy and regulation related to trade, geopolitics, economic security, technology policy and investment policy. The ideal candidate:
- Has a strong understanding of technology development and a willingness to engage further in digital technology topics
- Understands how legislation and regulation impact technology and business
- Can effectively engage and partner with policymakers and trade associations on digital policy issues
- Effectively communicates regulatory topics and their trends to internal stakeholders in corporate functions and the businesses
- Leverage your expertise to shape an enabling policy ecosystem for the digital transformation of American industry.
- Provide legislative and regulatory foresight to internal stakeholders and collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop policy positions related to policy area responsibility, with a clear focus on digital technologies in the industrial business-to-business context
- Map an external network to engage and partner with policy makers and the policy expert community from leading companies, trade associations, academia and think tanks.
- Use sound political understanding to assess the drivers, the content and potential impacts (risks and opportunities) of legislation, regulation and policy.
- Represent Siemens interests externally in relevant policy fora and business associations.
- Collaborate with other internal government affairs professionals as well as legal, communications and business functions in the U.S.
- Research, anticipate and monitor relevant legislation, regulation, policy initiatives and funding opportunities in trade, geopolitics, economic security, technology policy and investment policy.
- Communicate implications of policy developments for internal stakeholders.
- Develop and lead external advocacy efforts, leveraging consultants and trade associations to support the company position.
- Support policy briefings within your topic area for executives in preparation of political meetings and high-level events.
- Engage with policy makers to provide recommendations, shaping an innovation and technology-friendly ecosystem in the U.S.
You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 8+ years of public policy experience, particularly U.S. legislative or executive branch and corporate or trade association government affairs experience.
- BS or BA degree required
- 8+ years of experience of managing complex public policy analysis and advocacy strategies, including policy communications with senior government officials.
- 8+ years of experience advocating for public policy issues relating to trade, export controls, inbound and outbound investment and U.S. global financing programs
- 8+ years experience of working knowledge of relevant national policy and government affairs issues related to Siemens' business to proactively identify emerging issues and develop policy and government affairs strategies and messaging.
- 8+ years experience of leveraging expertise and existing relationships on the local, state and federal level, as well as across key industries to assist Siemens in moving key business initiatives forward.
- Must be authorized to work in the US without the need of visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD, MBA, or advanced degree in an applicable field
- Strong writing and public speaking skills to communicate company positions on complex topics, internally and externally.
- Ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams to drive and lead complex campaigns and projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in communicating complex, technical or policy issues to diverse, non-technical audiences both verbally and through written communication.
- Demonstrated expertise in crisis/issues management.
- Ability to engage and influence senior executives and high-level government officials.
- Ability to develop strategic political solutions to complex and critical problems
- Strong work ethic, positive demeanor, and heightened intuition.

- The pay range for this position is $132,650-$227,400 and the annual incentive target will be 15% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
