The Campus Auxiliaries Office of Communications and Marketing supports internal and external communications, messaging, and marketing for eight primary units and dozens of subunits, working closely with Campus Auxiliary leaders to ensure clear, effective messaging for the right audience through the right channel at the right time. Job Summary

The Creative Director for the Indiana University Bloomington Campus Auxiliaries Office of Communications and Marketing manages a team of creative professionals to ensure quality and excellence in engaging, creative, targeted communications and marketing materials for a variety of platforms and audiences. This role is the campus contact for Campus Auxiliaries leadership on their communications and marketing projects and oversees project development from inception to completion. The position works closely with the Executive Director for Strategic Communications and Marketing in the Office of Finance, Administration and Budget.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Effectively manages the creative team, including support of their ongoing skill acquisition and professional development.
  • Serves as the campus contact and project manager for Campus Auxiliaries Communications and Marketing projects.
  • Evaluates project management process and establishes effective workflow systems for project requests and timelines.
  • Defines and clearly explains on a website the suite of services offered to partner units; establishes what constitutes marketing and communications for this unit.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director of Strategic Communication and supports communications and marketing projects for the Office of Finance, Administration, and Budget as needed.
  • Supports creation of an annual report process and documents and helps establish pathways to updated information among auxiliaries' leadership.
  • Works with the team to review Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Supervises creation of an abridged onboarding document for new employees.
General Responsibilities
  • Directs operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within Campus Auxiliaries Communications and Marketing.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of a team of marketing and web specialists.
  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and, based on the unit's objectives as they connect to the IU mission and IUB 2030 goals, determines appropriate communications and marketing needs.
  • Independently develops, evaluates, and executes basic and highly complex strategic marketing plans for Finance Administration and Budget and Campus Auxiliaries, including working with Director of Market Research on data collection and market research and the definition of target market.
  • Develops project timelines, sources promotional materials, and creates marketing content.
  • Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests from direct reports and stakeholders; acts as a resource and explains policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assists in budget planning and administration for marketing initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and project and program costs.
  • Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty; monitors industry trends and best practices, makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager, and assists in implementing procedural changes.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Leaders.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or a related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years in a relevant field
  • 1 year of management experience in a relevant field

  • 6 years in a relevant field
  • 4 years of management experience in a relevant field
  • 8 years management of creative teams (social media, design, content, graphic design, multimedia)

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$100,000 - $105,000 per year based on education and work experience

Work Hours

Monday - Friday

8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Some project-based variances (40 hours per week max)
