Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has a new opportunity for a Manager Strategic Intelligence to join our corporate Development team. This position is responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, and dissemination of strategic insights that inform the organization's decision-making process. This position works closely with senior leadership and key business stakeholders to identify trends, opportunities, and threats in the industry, and competitive landscape. The Manager, SI leads a team that develops data-driven insights, provides actionable recommendations, and ensures that the organization remains agile and informed to make proactive, strategic decisions. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Compensation

$112,800 - $134,000

Exempt Grade 18
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.


What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SI professionals. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Lead efforts to collect, analyze, and interpret data from internal and external sources to provide actionable strategic insights that support decision-making at the executive and divisional levels.
  • Oversee the analysis of industry trends and developments, economic factors, and collaboratively partner with the Interplan and Mandates director to assess and plan for regulatory changes. Help the organization identify opportunities for innovation and product development.
  • Partner with senior leadership and key business areas to understand strategic goals and deliver intelligence solutions that align with enterprise and divisional goals. Provide insights that inform business strategy, product development, and operational decisions.
  • Ensure the development of clear, concise, and impactful reports, presentations, and dashboards for stakeholders at all levels. Translate complex data and insights into strategic recommendations that drive business outcomes.
  • Lead strategic intelligence projects, ensuring that key deliverables are met on time and within scope. Work cross-functionally to execute research initiatives, track progress, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing within the organization to ensure key insights and strategic intelligence are communicated effectively across departments and are accessible for decision-makers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external research firms, industry analysts, and consultants to gather insights and intelligence. Leverage external sources to enhance internal intelligence efforts.
  • Collaborate with the team to continuously evaluate and improve the intelligence-gathering process to enhance the organization's ability to make data-driven, strategic decisions. Stay up to date with industry tools, methodologies, and best practices to enhance intelligence capabilities.
  • Manage and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of departmental/project budgets, ensuring expenses are within allocated limits and aligned with organizational goals.


What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, economics, intelligence studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in intelligence, strategic analysis, data analysis, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience leading teams.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong ability to lead a team of SI analysts and data scientists. This includes setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and supporting professional growth.
  • Ability to think beyond short-term goals and focus on the future. This includes understanding industry trends, market disruptions, and identifying opportunities for growth or improvement over the next several years. Ability to align strategic intelligence insights with organizational objectives and operational priorities.
  • Working knowledge of strategy models, such as VRIO, Strategy Canvas, PESTLE, etc., as well as working knowledge of decision-making models, such as PrOACT. These models are frequently used when SI deliverables are presented to executive leadership.
  • Ability to conduct primary and secondary research, and the ability to translate these findings into succinct and robust analyses. This includes working knowledge of social and economic research models, ability to use proper demographic research methods and modeling techniques, and ability for statistical analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, including profitability, market share, and cost structures. This helps in understanding the financial implications of strategic decisions.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to influence strategic decision-making. The ability to present strategic insights in a compelling way is crucial for gaining buy-in.
  • The capacity to prioritize strategic intelligence initiatives based on their business impact. This includes focusing resources on the most critical areas of strategic concern.
  • Proven experience in strategic thinking and the ability to synthesize large amounts of information, identify trends, and provide actionable intelligence for decision-making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in presenting intelligence reports, strategic recommendations, and briefing senior leadership, with the ability to translate complex intelligence into actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Skill in working across departments (e.g., marketing, IT, legal, security, etc.) to understand business challenges and integrate intelligence into the overall organizational strategy.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, automation, and blockchain, and how these technologies might impact the organization or industry.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity, cope with change, and remain focused under pressure. Ability to navigate and drive change within the organization by leveraging strategic intelligence to advocate for new strategies or processes. This involves influencing leadership and guiding teams through transitions.


Bonus if you have

  • Master's business administration, business analytics, data science, statistics, economics, intelligence studies, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strategic experience in the healthcare insurance industry preferred.
