Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse
Job Specialty: Wound Care
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts, with an every other weekend schedule (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: Not specified
Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent Wound Care RN or Wound Care Coordinator experience in a hospital setting
License: Must have current RN license, multi-state RN license required
Certifications: BLS certification required (must be through the American Heart Association)
Must-Have:
- 2 years of recent Wound Care RN or Wound Care Coordinator experience
- Current RN license
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
Job Description:
- Manage the facility's wound care program, including setting standards of care and practice related to wound, ostomy, and continence patient care
- Provide direct patient care, assist staff nurses, and offer consultative services to affiliated healthcare agencies
- Develop and implement the facility's wound care program in line with national standards, including patient care protocols and wound care formulary
- Establish standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for cost-efficient, effective wound care for clinical staff
- Serve as the primary consultant for Wound Care Clinicians
- Provide training and support to enable clinical staff to assess wounds effectively and recommend appropriate protocols
- Offer ongoing education to staff on available products for use in the hospital
- Evaluate wounds upon admission and provide treatment plans
- Consult on wounds that do not show measurable signs of healing within two weeks
- Assist primary nurses in developing appropriate care plans for wound management and prevention, in consultation with physicians
- Review medical records to ensure wound assessments, care plans, and treatments are documented correctly
- Investigate cases with adverse events related to wounds and complete root cause analysis, developing action plans with nursing leadership
- Participate in clinical outcome monitoring and agency performance improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with clinical operations staff to maintain a cost-effective wound care formulary
- Assist with the training of new hire Wound Care Coordinators within the hospital division
