Sr BI Developer

Job Summary

The Business Intelligence Developer Senior will support the Keck Medicine IS team by designing, developing, testing, and implementing business intelligence (BI) solutions across various departments. This role serves as a subject matter expert for dashboards and reporting, supporting the transformation of raw data into actionable insights. The position requires strong technical capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to understand functional workflows and processes. Key technologies include QlikView, QlikSense, SQL, Cerner CCL, Hadoop, and relational database management systems (RDBMS).

Key Responsibilities

• BI Development & Data Visualization
• Design, develop, and deploy interactive dashboards and reports using tools like QlikView, QlikSense, Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Apply sound user experience (UX) principles for effective data visualizations.
• Leverage Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology to build, test, and deploy BI solutions efficiently.
• Create mock-up data visualizations and dashboard prototypes prior to development.
• Data Analysis & Reporting
• Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) using SQL and BI tools.
• Develop ad-hoc and routine reports for stakeholders and leadership.
• Translate complex data into meaningful insights to support decision-making.
• Ensure the accuracy, security, and integrity of data systems and reports.
• System Support & Documentation
• Maintain and support BI systems and dashboards, ensuring uptime and performance.
• Create and maintain documentation such as Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) and system design specs.
• Collaborate with other IS teams to integrate dashboards with enterprise systems and data warehouses.
• Customer Support & Training
• Provide training to staff and stakeholders on BI tools and dashboards.
• Serve as the primary contact for BI-related inquiries, troubleshooting, and enhancements.
• Maintain excellent customer service and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaboration & Project Management
• Partner with business stakeholders to identify information needs and gaps.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to drive data initiatives and improvements.
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks in a high-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 10+ years of relevant experience may be considered.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in BI reporting, dashboard development, and system support.
• If no degree, must have 10+ years of relevant experience.

Technical Skills and Experience

Strong proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) - MS SQL Server or Oracle.

Hands-on experience with QlikView and QlikSense (minimum 2 years preferred).

Experience with other BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.

Experience with Hadoop, RDBMS, and Cerner Command Language (CCL) preferred.

Strong knowledge of data modeling, capacity planning, and system architecture.

Experience with problem resolution across integrated platforms and systems.

Preferred Qualifications (if any)

• Previous experience in a healthcare or academic medical center environment.
• Familiarity with clinical workflows and healthcare data systems.

Certifications (if any)

• Certifications in BI platforms (e.g., Qlik, Tableau, Power BI) are a plus.
