Description:

The Technical Operations Manager will support on-site and remote live events for the New England Sports Network (NESN) and SportsNet Pittsburgh, including broadcasts for the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates.

You'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge broadcast technology, lead innovative projects, and be part of a team that brings sports to life for millions of fans.

This role serves as the primary technical contact for NESN's Operations Department and technical support as necessary for SportsNet Pittsburgh, ensuring seamless execution of live event productions. The manager will collaborate with engineering, production, and on-site crews to troubleshoot issues, schedule staff, and lead technical projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Live Event Support:
    • Provide operational support during live events at remote sites and the Watertown facility, and as necessary Pittsburgh or other remote locations
    • Act as the main technical point of contact for NESN Operations.
  • Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with operations management, production teams, and on-site crews to prepare for and execute remote broadcasts.
    • Partner with NESN Engineering and Master Control to ensure seamless live event broadcasts.
  • Technical Documentation and Planning:
    • Create production tech books and technical surveys for assigned games
    • Lead technical setup days as needed.
  • Vendor and Team Coordination:
    • Coordinate with Red Sox and Bruins broadcasting teams on technical integrations, camera/audio positions, and related issues at Fenway Park and TD Garden.
    • Manage truck compound requirements with team representatives and third-party vendors.
    • Assist Sr. Director of Studio & Event Operations for NESN and Sr. Director of Production & Operations for SNP with vendor coordination, negotiation and integration
  • Innovation and Technology:
    • Oversee site surveys and pilot new in-game technologies like cameras and audio integrations.
    • Develop proficiency in advanced production models, including 4K-HDR, RAPS (Cloud Control), and REMI productions.
    • Assist in implementing new technologies for remote-based events.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
    • Resolve complex technical, operational, and personnel issues during live events.
  • Budgeting and Additional Duties:
    • Participate in the annual capital budgeting process for new equipment.
    • Support SNP (SportsNet Pittsburgh) live events as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in live event production, both on-site and in-facility.
  • Familiarity with non-traditional workflows, including REMI, remote-controlled, and cloud-based productions.
  • Experience working with Broadcast Engineering and Master Control, including understanding signal flow and transmission.
  • Proficiency with broadcast technology (e.g., EVS, Calrec, Ross, Grass Valley, Unity, Dante, Evertz).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues.
  • Knowledge of event operational roles and experience working with third-party vendors.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and travel as required by the sports schedule.
