State Street's Wholesale Credit Risk - Corporate team, a sector team within the Enterprise Risk Management department, is looking for an experienced and highly motivated risk professional with strong credit analysis, financial modeling, critical thinking and communication skills. The Credit Officer, Assistant Vice President position is primarily focused on the Leveraged Loan market, but also includes exposure to Investment Grade counterparties.

The Credit Risk Officer, Assistant Vice President will be supporting and completing critical risk analysis and credit assessments of underwriting submissions to ensure fit with SSBT's risk appetite for corporate credit counterparties, primarily focused on the Leveraged Loan market. The incumbent will utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to make reasonable, well-informed credit recommendations, working closely with senior credit approvers. Secondary responsibilities include contributing to credit approvals in Corporate Investment Grade portfolio as well as surveillance oversight of all corporate portfolios (including FX). Participates in reporting, as well as strategic projects contributing to business transformation of the Financial Risk Department.
The individual best suited for this role will have demonstrated independence making thoughtful, timely credit recommendations, in close collaboration with senior credit approvers and the business team. A collaborative; strong critical thinker considering both transactional and strategic issues; problem solver; able to interact effectively to influence decision making; effective communicator, able to clearly, concisely articulate conflicting opinions under pressure. There will be frequent exposure to senior management, including preparing and presenting on individual credits and the portfolio.

Salary Range:
$90,000 - $142,500 Annual

Responsibilities:
- Reviews and makes recommendations to senior credit approvers on proposed credit exposures to large scale, multi-faceted corporate borrowers typically in complex financial transactions, balancing loan growth initiatives with prudent risk taking. Effective analysis of historical and forecast financials, competitive position, industry dynamics, organizational structure, transaction legal structure, repayment risks, and other critical factors summarized in clear, concise identification of strengths, weaknesses, and key risks. Ensures proposed risk ratings are well supported.
- Contributes to proactive oversight of a portfolio of individual credits, collaborating with senior approvers, staying abreast of periodic financial reporting and events with proactive risk rating recommendations that reflect changes in risk profile. Active surveillance of industry coverage related to assigned borrowers, as well as the general macro environment.
- Identifies and ensures transparency of material credit risk issues, including exceptions, resolving when possible and escalating as appropriate.
- Engagement in the resolution of adversely rated credit exposures.
- Engages with Global Credit Review on internal review and audit activities relevant to the Corporate portfolio.
- Works with the team and senior management in review, enhancement of risk appetite and policy, amid dynamic market and regulatory backdrop.
- Creates various portfolio reports to assist in portfolio oversight efforts.
- Contributor to development and enhancement of risk models
- Contribute in a variety of departmental risk management and project assignments.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years financial services background (6+ overall relevant experience)
- Strong preference for experience in Leveraged Loan markets, transactions; may include commercial lending/bank credit training, investment management, or CLO.
- Analyst supporting business origination team strongly preferred.
- Ability and willingness to challenge status quo, articulate alternate views, and manage constructive conflict, especially in making credit decisions.
- Superior analytical skills for reviewing credit requests, borrower financial performance, cash flow forecast models, market conditions and trends, modeling sensitivities, and other corporate credit related materials.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment, lead collaboratively on time sensitive credit approval requests. Must be able to effectively prioritize multiple assignments.
- Involvement with corporate risk models (PD, LGD, CCAR, Capital) desired
- Ability to work with team members and to develop influencing relationships with others throughout the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation and communication skills.
- Familiarity with pertinent terms and conditions and current market standards for credit agreements, ISDAs, and CSAs preferred.
- Excel and PowerPoint proficient, S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
