Summary:
The Chief IT Innovation works with and reports to the other executives in the company to develop and manage new ideas and innovation and their implementation throughout the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Will lead groundbreaking innovation practices and champion a culture of innovation throughout the enterprise as we build towards a coordinated innovation strategy and roadmap.
  • The ideal candidate must have a proven track record leading the strategic and operational activities for a large Global technology organization.
  • Elevate strategic engagement between technology and business stakeholders.
  • The Chief recognizes promising ideas and formulates strategies that involve key players to determine future projects. Responsible for the creative processes throughout the organization that align with NJ Transit's mission and strategic plan.
  • Searches for new solutions and approaches to business lines, operational processes and technology.
  • Analyzes existing practices and incorporates modern ideas that drive organizational efficiencies and marketability.
  • Monitors research and development of other organizations to spot trends in innovation and supplement research findings.
  • Drive New Growth Opportunities - Identify, prioritize, develop, and launch new products, services and business models.
  • Build and Grow Innovation Capabilities - Create new organizational capabilities, including technical and people-driven, that ensure a steady stream of innovations.
  • Champion Innovation - Evangelize innovation internally and externally to influence the brand in the market and create pull for creative talent.
  • Creates an innovation strategy that is understood and endorsed by key stakeholders including executive leadership, employees, customers, and partners.
  • Builds a well-balanced innovation portfolio and roadmap that drives investments & top line growth.
  • Ensures the company is successful in taking its innovations to market in a timely and scalable way.
  • Uses innovation to differentiate the company in the market, provide unique value to customers and help build long-term relationships with customers.
  • Evangelizes innovation so the company is viewed as innovative, visionary and a market leader by customers, industry groups and media.
  • Brainstorms with the creative team to discover new solutions and approaches to old problems.
  • Formulates effective new ideas and innovative strategies for product development, marketing, branding, or business opportunities.
  • Recognizes promising ideas and finds ways to introduce them into the company's future plan and discards ideas that are ineffective, costly, or beyond the scope of the company's mission or abilities to develop.
  • Strategizes with product development teams to transform general ideas into workable solutions.
  • Analyzes existing practices to isolate areas ripe for improvement or enhancement.
  • Encourages creative thinking in employees and finds ways to nurture innovative thinking across all areas of the company.
  • Follows customer responses to new ideas, tracks and analyzes the success of new products or services and responds to customer questions or concerns.
  • Monitors research and development of other organizations to spot trends in innovation and supplement research findings in the company's industry.
  • Allocates resources to maintain the organization's existing agenda while accounting for new projects.
  • Evaluates the progress of innovation and adjusts the pace or direction of new projects in accordance.
  • Keeps all new projects in line with the company's mission and maintains consistency with the company's message and brand.
  • Must be able to work creatively within a budget and use innovation to find ways of more effectively managing resources.
  • Strong business knowledge, understanding of a variety of business practices, and familiarity with the company's industry.
  • Must be able to collaborate with executives, creative teams, research and development, and product development teams.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to persuasively sell ideas.
  • Must be willing to take calculated risks and manage expectations of both internal development teams and potential and existing customers.
This Position Supervises:
  • IT Innovation Team Members
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or administration, Information Services or related field.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated successful and progressive experience in IT, including five (5) years of technology innovation experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong analytical abilities, and excellent leadership skills
  • Advanced technological skill set and a demonstrated history with technology.
  • Proven experience in leadership, conflict management and continuous improvement, required.
  • A background in marketing, research and development, product development, or strategy is recommended.
  • Must have subject matter experience across the transportation industry bringing innovative approaches to today's transportation.
  • Transport experience would be ideal and not limiting to public transit, I.E. UPS, Fedex, XPO type of businesses.
