Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors' North American electric vehicle applications.

Job Description:

The continuous Improvement lead will be responsible to Identify opportunities for process improvement, waste removal and cost reduction. This position will work with cross functional teams to plan, facilitate, and execute CI events (OpEx) using lean manufacturing tools.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Discuss process issues
  • Implement lean programs to ensure vertical deployment of lean principles and competencies.
  • Optimize the production process by defining the current process and utilizing lean tools to identify and eliminate waste.
  • Identify areas of improvement
  • Develop project plan for implementing improvements
  • Monitoring existing process for improvements opportunities
  • Working with production and supply chain to support lean manufacturing plant culture and targets.
  • Development and implementation of TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) to support Lean initiatives.
  • Transition ownership of completed projects to operations team and support sustaining activities to ensure results are maintained.
  • Skill set should include- Value Stream Mapping, Spaghetti Diagram, 5-Why, Fishbone, PDCA, DMIAC, Kaizen, Poka Yoke, 6s, JIT system, Kanban, Statistical Process Control, FIFO.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the translator team across the site

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, another Business-related field, or 5 plus years in a CI leadership position, preferred
  • Strong background in Continuous Improvement type of projects
  • Experience with implementation of lean principles
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time, with ability to meet project timelines
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
  • Keeps abreast of current product & process developments and trends in areas of expertise
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing systems such as TPS and/or GMS.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Process (CIP)
