Texas State University Libraries is seeking a Head of Public Services to oversee the efficient and effective delivery of library services to the university community. This position combines leadership, planning, and operational management to ensure library services meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff. The Head of Public Services oversees the daily operations of the information and circulation services including staffing, scheduling, training, creation, and implementation of services and policies that advance the library's mission and values. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for proactive problem solving, developing creative solutions, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to library patrons. The Head of Public Services is key to contributing to the advancement of the library's mission and its role in supporting the University's academic goals and student success initiatives.

- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library science or information science program.
- Academic library experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current research library trends, technologies, and best practices in public service delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written, and oral communications skills emphasizing customer services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with progressive supervisory and/or leadership responsibilities.
- Ability to conduct training and provide instruction in a one-to-one, small group, or large group setting.
- Demonstrated experience with project management, including planning, communication, and assessment.
- Experience managing a departmental budget.
- Experience using Teams or other conversational tools to support strong communication.
- Knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems and resource sharing systems.

Job Duties
- Provide leadership for the public services team; inspiring a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
- Supervise and mentor a team of librarians, staff, and student workers, fostering professional growth and development.
- Oversees customer service delivery in the Alkek Library.
- Oversee daily circulation operations including development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and documentation for circulation and information services.
- Maintains strong, open communication channels with service delivery staff and fosters positive relations with other library service points and building stakeholders.
- Contributes to programming and student outreach.
- Promote a customer-centric approach to service delivery, ensuring a positive and inclusive user experience.
- Advises library leadership on staffing and budget needs for library service points.
- Manages student hiring budget in collaboration with library leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
