Position Summary: The Office of Communications is dedicated to disseminating important news, critical information, and compelling stories about NYCPS to families, students, educators, staff, and all New Yorkers. Using multiple media platforms, the office keeps audiences informed and inspired by developing trusted resources and delivering them in a consistent, approachable, and engaging manner.
The Executive Director of Marketing and Digital Communications will develop marketing and communications strategies that engage and empow er school communities and external stakeholders across New York City. Under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer, the Executive Director of Marketing and Digital Communications will develop and implement NYCPS's marketing strategy, strengthen its brand identity, and oversee the creation and execution of advertising campaigns. Working closely with other divisions and offices at NYCPS , the Executive Director of Marketing and Digital Communications will strengthen NYCPS visibility and leverage and expand NYCPS presence across digital platforms to promote key initiatives. Performs related work.
Reports to: Chief of Communications , Communications Office
Direct Reports: Director of Marketing & Branding and their team, Director of External Communications and their team .
Key Relationships: Engage and collaborate with NYCPS central offices and divisions, and other NYC agencies to ensure clear and consistent delivery of NYCPS core messages to internal and external audiences (e.g., parents, students, educators and other staff, elected officials, and community-based organizations) to create accurate, useful, and engaging information. Collaborate with NYCPS central staff to determine product roadmap and strategic direction for marketing initiatives, publications, and online tools and services for use by internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with central communications team, divisions and offices throughout NYCPS.

Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
High school graduation or equivalent and two years of training in an approved technical school in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout and other art media and seven years full-time paid experience as a commercial artist, four years of which must have been in supervision and planning of art work done by a staff; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1". However, all candidates must have the four years of supervisory experience as described above.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
- Establish priorities for the Marketing & Branding team and the External Communications team.
- Provide high-level direction for NYCPS overall marketing strategy, ensuring that all campaigns, publications, and advertising efforts align with the agency's mission and brand identity.
- Partner with other communications staff across the agency to develop and deliver the cross-functional agency-wide marketing plans.
- Advise communications leads across central offices on large-scale, marketing planning, drafting, and execution; and advise NYCPS divisions on timing, project sequencing, and prioritization across the organization.
- Lead, manage, and motivate the agency marketing and external communications teams.
- Oversee editorial and product management for NYCPS-wide online communications initiatives, ensuring that the Department operates efficiently in its development efforts, maintains cohesion and effectiveness in internal and external communications, and meets the business objectives of these initiatives.
- Lead the development and implementation of an editorial calendar and publication strategy, working with internal teams to deliver content that supports NYCPS objectives.
- Supervise editorial projects and content series from inception to completion, including creative direction, planning, staff support, setting schedules, and related tasks.
- Write, proofread, and edit copy for a variety of communications vehicles, e.g., presentations, briefings, brochures, campaigns, letters, newsletters, videos, and online platforms.
- Work to advance NYCPS communications goals through the development and implementation of marketing and communications campaigns, strategy, and methodology, particularly through managing high-profile digital properties, including web and digital platforms.
- Work with internal creative teams and external agencies to define branding and messaging, while managing the budget to ensure cost-effective execution and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Lead and supervise the development and execution of creative design and visual layout for all NYCPS publications, advertisements, and printed materials to maintain brand consistency and excellence.
- Oversee the development of NYCPS publications and other printed materials.
- Collaborate with creative and communications teams to define and ensure adherence to NYCPS branding and messaging standards, ensuring that all materials reflect the agency's values and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with creative teams on the direction, production, and placement of videos and other creative assets.
- Collaborate with editors on the marketing and branding of written assets, such as newsletters and other content.
- Oversee digital communications for diverse audiences using a wide range of tools, including web content management, email marketing, SMS, social media, paid media, video, and search engine optimization; manage the associated budget to ensure efficient resource allocation and impact.
- Oversee the NYCPS editorial, visual, and digital guidelines, policies, and digital best practices to ensure that all communications products are consistent with NYCPS mission and objectives.
- Continuously improve the accessibility, usability, and information architecture of the NYCPS website and InfoHub to ensure they are clear, accessible, and user-friendly for families, New York City residents, and NYCPS employees.
- Supervise the rapid response communications workflow and coordinate across the agency to ensure NYCPS delivers accurate information to families and staff in a timely manner across multiple channels and platforms.
- Lead NYCPS's digital communications strategy and response during crises or incidents to ensure timely and accurate messaging to internal and external audiences.
- Supervise the development of cross-functional communications plans with teams in other offices and divisions; establish performance metrics to ensure accountability, measure progress and results, and adjust strategies as needed to achieve necessary outcomes.
- Oversee the planning and execution of paid advertising campaigns, including vendor coordination, media scheduling, and performance monitoring, to ensure timely and effective market presence; manage associated budget.
- Measure, monitor, and report progress and results, adjusting as needed to reach target audiences.
- Provide strategic guidance for marketing and branding projects and campaigns with superior project management skills and the ability to inspire while managing multiple time-sensitive projects under tight deadlines.
- Plan and document detailed marketing and digital media workflows, including content planning, campaign scheduling, execution, and distribution strategies, to enhance efficiency and maximize engagement.
- Codify workflows in writing and standardize best practices by creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of marketing and digital media operations, from content creation and approval processes to performance tracking and asset management.
- Provide mentorship and strategic guidance to ensure high performance, innovation, and maximum results across all marketing efforts.
- Maintain budget control; develop and maintain media schedules to ensure timely and effective messaging.
- Remain abreast of current NYCPS programs, initiatives, and policies, and ensure their integration in communications.
- Create an archive of completed tasks and projects to track progress, measure impact, and support a year-end reflection of accomplishments.

- Experience managing a diverse, creative staff and inspiring them to find new ways of communicating and reaching the diverse communities of NYCPS.
- Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
- Experience in writing and editing materials for print and web-based communications.
- Advanced knowledge of HTML code and CMS tools. Proficiency in web content development, software, and standards.
- Firm grasp of both the content creation/editorial process and a deep understanding of a wide variety communication technologies/media types, e.g., broadcast, print, outdoor, email, websites, mobile, SMS, social media, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of the media landscape. Exceptional understanding and use of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Wordpress, etc.
- Search engine optimization skills. Measurement-driven mindset, with extensive experience with Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insights, and social listening tools. Track record of driving exceptional campaign results.
- Understanding of key digital advertising metrics and current industry trends.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in collaboration with both technical and non-technical staff to brainstorm, problem-solve, and execute projects. Ability to start and cultivate positive working relationships with team members, partners/vendors, and other parties within the agency.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking/problem-solving skills; ability to identify potential solutions to problems and make quality, rational decisions under pressure.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; commitment to meeting deadlines and improving processes.
- Understanding of design and aesthetics. Experience with photography and video production; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, and graphic design principles and best practices.
- Experience with enterprise-scale operations and client management, or with running significant programs for a large organization.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, including the ability to see how online communications can help achieve an organization's strategic objectives.
- Ability to understand and facilitate both business requirements and communications strategy.

- A master's degree from an accredited college in Marketing, English, journalism, public relations, or a closely related field.
