CBC is currently seeking an Executive Producerto lead all digital and video content for CBC Arts, Q with Tom Power and Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, Digital, Unscripted, this role requires extensive experience with digital publishing and online video; strong team leadership and editorial judgement; deep familiarity with the arts and culture landscape; and a keen understanding of how to grow digital audiences in 2025.

The Executive Producer will plan, direct, and co-ordinate the work of others, effectively communicate strategic objectives and oversee the development of the team and its performance.

As Executive Producer, you will oversee the CBC Arts team, as well as the digital and video teams for Q with Tom Power and Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud. You're a cultural obsessive with a strong understanding of audience needs and behaviours in the arts and culture space. Your mission will be to ensure we're creating timely, relevant and engaging content that's responsive to contemporary culture and reflective of both the audiences we serve and those we are working to grow.

You bring passion and drive to your work, along with a sophisticated understanding of how to create, publish and disseminate digital and video content. You are very comfortable using data to inform your decisions, and are sensitive to the ever-changing tides of online attention, without compromising editorial judgement.

A thoughtful leader and natural collaborator, you bring out the best in your team while remaining focused on larger strategic objectives. You're also an eager partner, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You are a strong advocate for inclusion in your work and in the people you work with, and your leadership inspires the same in others.

You have strong knowledge of the Journalistic Standards and Practices of CBC (or similar) and are confident making quick judgements in complex and stressful situations in accordance with these journalistic policy guidelines, including recognizing when other counsel is needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for all CBC Arts content, as well as digital and video content for Q and Commotion
  • Works with Senior Producer, CBC Arts, to oversee CBC Arts team, and directly oversees Q and Commotion digital and video teams
  • Collaborates closely with Executive Producer, Q and Commotion, on overall strategy and weekly priorities
  • Exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by Management and ensures journalism meets CBC standards and practices; vets as required
  • Is responsible for team development by mentoring and providing opportunities for growth to staff. This includes ongoing feedback and the utilization of established personal development processes
  • Leads regular staffing and scheduling decisions, ensuring ongoing team development and consistent feedback
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to develop content strategy and ensure goals are in line with overall objectives and audience research
  • Regularly monitors content performance using analytics tools in order to measure success and identify opportunities
  • Diversifies the range of voices, opinions and storytelling styles the audience hears
  • In consultation with the Production Manager, is responsible for budget expenditures and resource allocations


Your profile/Qualifications
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant editorial and leadership experience, of which five must involve work in broadcasting, digital publishing or a closely related industry directly related to the area of assignment
  • A university degree or equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge of and relationships in arts and culture industries
  • Strong awareness of the competitive landscape
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with connections to diverse communities
  • Experience with, and ongoing commitment to, building, developing and leading a team that reflects the audiences we serve
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise both quick editorial judgment and long term strategic planning
  • Experience developing a content framework and setting measurable goals to evaluate success within that structure
  • Expert knowledge of CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices, or similar
  • Expertise with content management systems and analytics; experience with CBC systems is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize work, balancing multiple priorities and tight deadlines without sacrificing creativity or quality or a positive environment
  • Experience leading difficult conversations, offering feedback and managing accountability
  • Commitment to continuous learning and personal growth
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required
  • Highly developed vetting skills
  • Ability to contribute innovative "out-of-the-box" thinking to daily production
