At the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, MD, SA-TECH supports the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department and we are currently looking to hire an Instrumentation Technician III-IV to provide project leadership for aircraft instrumentation and wiring support activities.

The basic duties of the position include (but are not limited to):
  • Manages/leads a variety of instrumentation and wiring projects for VX-23.
  • Performs fabrication, installation and operational support of instrumentation systems and wiring harnesses on various aircraft and test articles.
  • This position utilizes wiring diagrams and technical information provided by engineers and senior technicians to independently fabricate the instrumentation system racks and wiring harnesses, including installation.
  • Performs pre-flight and post-flight operational checks on instrumentation systems prior to, and following, test flights.
  • Provides support during aircraft measurement calibrations as required.
  • Work assigned at this level is typically more complex and of larger scope requiring coordination of multiple instrumentation engineering technicians working on multiple large-scale tasks.
  • Pre-flight, post-flight FA-18 and EA-18G platforms, as well as flight test pods and ground support equipment (test carts, DRODI vans).
  • Wire various instrumentation packages.
  • Wire various platforms; follow VX-23 and AID processes and procedures.
  • Aid the instrumentation operations engineers by maintaining, installing, calibrating, testing and troubleshooting FA-18 and EA-18G instrumentation systems.
  • Support on-aircraft ground testing.
  • Perform instrumentation pre-flights, post-flights and test flight support (including loading and removing data cartridges and delivering them to data processing).
  • Some testing may be done at other test facilities and carriers, so up to 50% travel is required.
  • Perform work in the Instrumentation Lab (troubleshooting, installing and checking out instrumentation systems).
  • Conform to AVMI and LM FOD and tool control policies and all facets of security (physical, Automated Information System (AIS), document control, Communications Security (COMSEC), Operations Security (OPSEC), and security education requirements) as well as instrumentation quality assurance inspections.

Work Conditions:
  • Conditions will vary although most of the work will be performed in enclosed buildings.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
  • You must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. assisted by others.
  • Working hours are 0600-1530; there may be an occasional need to work flex hours as well as overtime.
  • Testing will frequently be done at other test facilities and carriers, so up to 50% travel is required.


Requirements

Education/Experience/Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated project management/leadership experience.
  • For wiring, electronics, and instrumentation duties, you must obtain (and subsequently maintain) IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification within 60 days of start (Government-taught classes may be used if available).
  • A minimum of five (5) years [Level III] or ten (10) years [Level IV] of relevant work experience, to preferably include aircraft and instrumentation experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Non-Aircrew Cockpit Systems (NACS) qualification.
  • Must be conscientious while working on aircraft and hangar deck with regard to Safety, FOD, Tool Control, etc.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
