The Opportunity

Our location in Maple Grove, MN or Santa Clara, CA currently has an on-site opportunity for a Global Project Director. The Global Project Director is a leader within Global Clinical Operations driving the Clinical Studies and Programs for the Vascular business. In this role, the Director will lead high-performing cross-functional teams to ensure speed and innovation remain a core competency and that the team is focused, energized and on-track to meet the overall strategic objectives. This position requires natural leadership and a high level of independence, the ability to collect, synthesize, and integrate information from multiple sources, and to resolve conflicting requirements.

What You'll Work On

Deliver Business Results
  • Define & execute Abbott goals to meet product approval, regulatory requirements and publication needs globally.
  • Define & execute clinical goals to drive GCO cross-functional teams to operational excellence.
  • Able to distribute initiatives to Project Management staff and cross-functionally in a way that is authentic and motivational.
  • Ensure results delivered are compliant with applicable regulations & procedures.
  • Develop, communicate and manage organizational change within the organization.

Financial Management
  • Coordinate study financial reviews.
  • Implement financial savings when necessary while minimizing impact on study milestones.
  • Communicate drivers of resources and develop alternative strategies to meet business needs.
  • Execute clinical trials within approved budget with required accuracy.
  • Perform Trial Scenario Costing of potential new trials and programs to assist in developing clinical and regulatory strategies.

Strategy Development & Execution
  • Define and execute strategies to address strategic and regulatory changes that will significantly impact timelines and how business is conducted.
  • Able to understand and drive strategic objectives and translate those to GCO goals, actions, and processes.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk associated with clinical trial execution.

Operational Excellence
  • Manage appropriate staffing levels.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and Continuous improvement to maximize efficiency.
  • Knowledge of regulations and internal processes
  • Global Study Management expertise in conducting research in EMEA, Asia-Pac, Japan and USA that would allow for strategic planning and execution.

Internal & External Stakeholder Management
  • Work with Leaders within Abbott to ensure clinical milestones are achieved.
  • Initiate, maintain, and tactfully influence relationships with stakeholders.
  • Use metrics/historical data to help develop clinical trial execution strategy.
  • Able to interact and drive strategic conversation around clinical operations at the Director Level & above.
  • Able to support KOL and site relationships to meet BU and quality needs.

Talent Management
  • Select and develop effective managers.
  • Identify talent gaps and drive talent development through creation & identification of growth opportunities.
  • Define succession plans and implement development activities to achieve those plans.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related medical field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the specified field combined with a minimum of 5 years as an industry expert.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD
  • 7 years leading significant pre-market clinical studies within the medical device space.
  • Prior experience with medical device clinical trials
  • Experience with clinical trials in the field of Vascular
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with respect to achievement of company goals and objectives.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Problem solving skills (including taking ownership to ensure timely resolution), a strong sense of urgency and the ability to successfully execute in an environment under time and resource pressures.

The base pay for this position is
$147,300.00 - $294,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
