Job Purpose:

The Systems Engineer will assist with maintaining our IT infrastructure, ensure optimal performance of systems, and provide technical support to end-users. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to multitask, and a customer-focused attitude. Incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the implementation, and maintenance of our applications and systems infrastructure to ensure it aligns with the Agency's strategic business objectives in a Microsoft Windows and Office 365 hybrid environment.

Job Functions:

  • Monitor the performance of network and system infrastructure and take proactive measures to optimize and improve performance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system architecture, configuration, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues with applications and systems infrastructure, including hardware, software, and network problems.
  • Maintain service contracts; install and uninstall software; update system operating system and security patches; and install new hardware. Develop and document plans for upgrade paths with contingency for issues with upgrades as well as protections for data to ensure continued functionality and no loss of data when transitioning.
  • Maintain hardware and software to ensure the integrity of all SCDOC networks, servers and workstations.
  • Evaluate new or advanced technologies, develop plans and support for implementation.
  • Manage remote access of DOC computers and other resources in a safe and effective manner.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain 3rd party applications to meet the needs of the Agency.

  • Minimum and Additional Requirements

    A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and experience in computer system development and modification in either an on-premises, cloud-based, or hybrid environment. Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experienced knowledge of information technology system analysis, design, testing and maintenance techniques. Experienced knowledge of computer or network hardware, software, operating systems, programming languages, or other information technology tools and resources. Ability to solve basic to moderately complex problems and apply critical thinking skills to needs or problems, both individually and as part of a team. Ability to prepare status reports and basic to moderately complex technical reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work effectively with users, vendors, staff members, and other IT units. Ability to follow technical directions. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.

    Additional Comments
    Must have a valid SC driver's license. Able to travel within the state and occasionally outside of the state with potential overnight travel.
