We are looking for a self-driven, insightful, results-oriented Business Intelligence Engineer to join the North America Transportation Speed Improvement Team. Our team mission is to drive improvements to delivery speed across Amazon's fulfillment and transportation network, from initial delivery promise to final delivery to our customers. We are seeking an exemplary Business Intelligence Engineer with broad technical skills to build analytic and reporting capabilities that enable optimization of delivery promises for our millions of customers worldwide. Further, you will help automate processes by developing deep-dive tools, UIs, metrics, and dashboards to communicate these insights in real-time to the business teams. Successful members of this team collaborate effectively with internal end-users, cross-functional software development teams, and technical support/sustaining engineering teams to solve problems, and implement new solutions.

Key job responsibilities

- Create, support, improve, and deep dive transportation metrics to provide actionable insights related to delivery speed, network design, and customer experience. This will require data gathering and analysis, partnering with external teams, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.

- Define, develop, and maintain critical business and operational reports reviewed on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis

- Perform ad hoc deep dives to understand drivers for transportation issues and opportunities, as well as support North American and Global transportation teams with special projects.

- Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers

- Be enthusiastic about building deep domain knowledge about Amazon's business and the order fulfillment speed space.

- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven, and deliver high quality results in a fast-paced environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related experience.

- 3+ years of relevant work experience in data science, business analytics, business intelligence (BI), or comparable experience in big data environments.

- 3+ years of experience in data mining and data-set preparation using SQL.

- 3+ years of experience with Tableau Desktop or other relevant data visualization software.

- Knowledge of data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components, ETL and reporting/analytic tools and environment.

- Proficient understanding of data warehousing, data modeling methods.

- Proficient with Python or other relevant scripting language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related technical field Proven ability to solve complex quantitative business challenges.

- Familiarity with forecasting, planning, optimization, and engineering economics - gained through work experience or graduate-level education

- Desire to create and build new predictive/optimization tools that benefit the business and improve customer experience.

- Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, strong attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities are critical to success in this position

- Strong skills with third party tools - MPP DBs (e.g. Redshift, Teradata, Netezza), DFS (e.g. Hadoop), NoSQL (e.g. DynamoDB, Cassandra), Data Modeling tools (e.g. ERWin, ERStudio), ETL Tools (e.g. Informatica, Ab Initio, SSIS), BI Tools (e.g. Tableau).

- Exceptional working knowledge of SQL.

- Knowledge of statistics and statistical models as applied to experimentation best practices

- Proficient in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, R, SPSS).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
