JOB SUMMARY:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates and executes strategies to recruit and retain families and staff for the school system.
- Assists with maintaining open lines of communication with all community organizations. Responds to inquiries about the District, its programs, and services.
- Promotes the community/school philosophy district-wide and encourages the involvement and cooperation of other agencies, clubs, and organizations within the community.
- Oversee the alumni engagement strategy.
- Writes, edits, and helps maintain the district's website content.
- Assist with press releases, media kits, brochures, and other District communications.
- Coordinates newsworthy activities for the District, and maintains a positive working relationship with the media.
- Assists the Superintendent, who has the primary public relations responsibility for the District, in any way that will facilitate the production of materials, scheduling of meetings, or any other activity that he/she feels is needed to facilitate good communications with the public.
- Remains knowledgeable of professional practices in the field and participates in professional organizations.
- Take photos/videos for use on social media and in district publications
- Assist with all community relations activities, including district-wide special events and volunteerism.
- Assists the District Crisis Communication Team.
- Communicates important achievements, programs, and projects to stakeholders served by the District.
- Assists with district-wide surveys, including survey analysis.
- Represents the school system as necessary at out-of-district meetings
- Acts as liaison with and provides support to citizen groups in financial elections.
- Keeps Superintendent, staff, trustees, and the community aware of developments in pending legislation which could affect the school district
- Disseminates information on emergency school closings and similar situations as needed.
- Collaborate the technology department in keeping the district website current and informative.
- Meets with citizen groups, PTO Council, Board Observers, Budget Council and staff advisory committees as assigned.
- Cooperates with representatives of community organizations to organize and plan co-sponsored projects and district events..
- Attends Board of Education meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Works with other Central office staff on community relations projects.
- Manages the requests for third-party communications via PeachJar
- Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, or Journalism preferred.
- Experience in public relations/marketing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in Social Media Platforms.
- Ability to initiate positive contacts with the community.
- Evidence of prior marketing success with results.
- Ability to capture and edit video.
- Experience working with various media outlets.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute administrative projects and policies.
- Knowledge of Board-staff relationships.
- Ability to work harmoniously with citizens' groups and media contacts.
- Ability to write and speak effectively.
- An understanding of the issues facing public education.
- Ability to work with staff across the district.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
