Role Definition

Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Cat machine product line.

As a Torque Converter Design Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for developing expertise of a complex fluid-mechanical device that is a critical drivetrain component in every Caterpillar product utilizing a powershift transmission. You will have design responsibility for a product-dedicated family of Torque Converters, it's parts and subsystems. You will lead the technical planning and execution of NPI, CPI, and production maintenance projects. Using critical thinking skills, you will lead the team to identify areas of risk and develop and managed a validation plan to mitigate. You will identify analysis and physical test activities and adapt the technical plan as needed. You will communicate results to the extended teams as appropriate. As a Torque Converter design expert, you will and identify and lead design and process improvements intended to improve performance, reduce warranty, and cut costs.

What you will do
  • Torque Converter design responsibility for a family of products.
  • Complete Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Support creation and execution of technical plans to meet project deliverables.
  • Prioritize and complete detailed design activities.
  • Collaborate with analysis and development teams to validate designs.
  • Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and internal clients.
  • Perform product maintenance including factory support and supplier collaboration.


Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering curriculum.


Skills you must have
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
