Who we are looking for:

Triple Eight Transport Inc. is looking for a Controller to lead and guide the company's financial health through planning, analysis, and growth initiatives. The Controller will ensure the company's financial well-being through expert oversight of budgeting, risk management, and core financial activities. This Controller will report to our Senior Controller.

Responsibilities include:
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly internal financials, supervise and review the transaction journals, post and maintain monthly accruals for material balances, diagnose and implement improvements to the timely month-end reporting process. Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of an accounting, audit or other financial department. Develop and implement the financial policies, systems and procedures of an establishment. Reconciliation of weekly and monthly bank statements. Preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements. Develops & document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and manage risk. Prepare and maintain financial metrics for reporting purposes.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Provide financial analysis and insights to support business planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives. Develop unit economics for key performance indicators and cash flow forecasts to support business operations and strategic decision-making.
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to senior managers and other departmental managers. Act as liaison between the organization and its shareholders, the investing public and external financial analysts. Establish profitability standards for investment activities.
  • System Development: Assess the current financial reporting infrastructure and develop robust systems and processes to support accurate financial reporting and analysis. Develop a wholly new database of financial reporting documentation to support the financial health of the business.
  • Tax filing: Reconciliation and filing of returns on a recurring basis. Preparation of GST and other legislated taxes and assessments are reconciled and remitted.
  • Payment and Payroll Management: Oversight of the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivables, and supporting payroll, ensuring all payments are managed efficiently and accurately.
  • Compliance & Controls: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy. Develop internal controls policy for the business operations. Ensures appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the executive team and Controller to provide financial insights and support business objectives.
  • Partnership Accounting: Maintaining partnership tax structures and fund accounting will be a secondary responsibility in this role.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) is required
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in private company financial reporting, preferably (but not required) within a Real Estate or Construction company.
  • Experience with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and cash flow forecasting
  • Prior experience in building out a month-end process
  • Prior experience managing financial reporting systems independently
  • Demonstrable competency and experience with accounting standards for private enterprises is mandatory
  • Willingness and motivation to take on and/or oversee clerical responsibilities (depositing cheques, paying bills, etc.) in addition to more complex tasks.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in Great Plains Software is an asset
  • Must be legally allowed to work full time in Canada
