Project Engineer
The Opportunity
The Town of Mansfield (www.mansfieldct.gov) is hiring a full-time project engineer to perform professional and administrative civil engineering work involving field and office design, surveying and inspection activities as well as related work as required. Sample duties include: designing, coordinating, administering and inspecting public works construction projects; operating software programs to design projects; preparing and maintaining files and records. Position reports to the Assistant Director of Public Works.

The Town of Mansfield's Department of Public Works provides services for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's fleet and infrastructure such as roads; sidewalks; bridges; solid waste facilities; park and recreation areas; athletic fields; sewers and sewer pump stations; and vehicles and equipment. The following departments, divisions, and programs are reflected under Public Works: Engineering Division which includes sewers; Operations Division which includes equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, transfer station and tree warden; Solid Waste Division which includes trash and recycling contracted services.
Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut's Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs - www.mansfieldmdp.org), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town.
Total Compensation
The salary range is $76,113 -$96,411/yr (effective 7/1/25: $81,137 -$102,787/yr). The hiring rate of pay will depend upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. This position is full-time with benefits. The Town of Mansfield provides an extremely competitive benefits package. Mansfield participates in the Connecticut Municipal Retirement System (CMERS), a defined pension plan, a variety of other benefits such as medical, vision, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, tuition assistance, paid vacation and holidays.
Work Schedule & Location
The selected candidate will be scheduled for 35 hours per week, with a four day work week. The selected candidate will normally work four consecutive days, Monday-Thursdays. Occasional evening work may be required. The work location is the Audrey Beck Municipal Building, 4 South Eagleville Road.
Education and Experience
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field and considerable project engineering experience. Consideration may be given to equivalent experience and training. Candidate must have passed their NCEES Fundamental of Engineering Exam, have their Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or equivalent outside of Connecticut), or achieve the EIT certification in Connecticut within one year of hire.
