Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Administrative Director and the Nurse Manager, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Care Center, and in collaboration with the physicians and other clinical staff in the Cardiology Clinic, the Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for providing safe, efficient nursing care to patients in the UCSF Advanced Heart Failure (AHF) Clinic. Triage patients and responds appropriately according to protocol and nursing assessment. The Clinical Nurse 2 utilizes the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation) to provide safe and therapeutic clinical care.
The Clinical Nurse 2 also provides clinical support to Providers and participates as part of the health care team to assure coordination and continuity of patient care.
Performs nursing activities as ordered by the physicians and advanced practice providers (APP). A primary responsibility of this role will be providing care and nursing support to patients within the AHF Diuretic Clinic, including but not limited to: intravenous insertion and administration of diuretics and other medications as ordered. Continuous monitoring of patients in the Diuretic clinic including vitals, intake /output, response to therapy and appropriate assessment and triage of clinical symptoms and escalation to the appropriate provider.
The Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for triage on behalf of the practice both in person/video and through telephone and electronic communication such as in-basket messaging and any other electronic communication portal across teams within the AHF clinic including Heart Failure Disease Management, Pre-Heart Transplant, Post Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support, as needed.
The Clinical Nurse 2 participates in the development and implementation of educational programs and materials for patients and their family members.
The Clinical Nurse 2 will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment.
The Clinical Nurse is responsible for daily clinical operations and maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
The Clinical Nurse 2 consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor, helps establish and maintain the highest service standards for the practice and complies with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards. This employee will utilize computer skills in Apex and other UCSF computerized programs.
This individual supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration and complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $84.78 - $109.85 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Three years of experience in Cardiology
- Minimum of six months recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Cardiology clinic and/or cardiac rehabilitation
- Minimum of one year recent experience of cardiac telemetry, pacemaker and cardiac device nursing care or equivalent
- Recent EPIC EMR experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Adult and Geriatric patient populations
- Ability to work competently and efficiently with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Work
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
