Summary:
As a key member of the Engineering Management Team, the Configuration Management (CM) Manager is responsible for leading the configuration management function and overseeing all related planning, change control, audits, versioning, and data integrity activities across the organization. The Manager plays a central role in maintaining and evolving our PLM (Aras Innovator) and ERP systems to ensure consistent product lifecycle data management in compliance with internal standards and external defense regulations.
In addition to their core CM responsibilities, the Manager oversees a small team of CM Specialists, mentoring team members and ensuring alignment with CM-2 best practices. While the position includes oversight of select Sustaining Engineering initiatives, the primary focus is on strategic CM leadership, continuous improvement of configuration processes, and support for compliance and customer requirements, particularly within the defense sector.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of CM professionals responsible for CM and data control activities.
- Define and maintain CM processes and procedures in line with industry standards (CM-2, EIA-649, ISO 9001) and contractual obligations, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance across all product data.
- Oversee the use and evolution of the PLM system (Aras Innovator), ensuring seamless integration with the ERP platform and optimizing workflows for efficiency and control.
- Manage the configuration and change control processes, including the creation and enforcement of product baselines, version histories, and audit trails.
- Chair and drive the Change Control Board (CCB) process, ensuring all engineering changes are thoroughly reviewed, documented, and properly implemented.
- Ensure CM planning is embedded in new development and sustaining engineering initiatives, while maintaining focus on product integrity, traceability, and long-term supportability.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Engineering, Quality, Production, Project Management, Customer Support) to maintain alignment with CM standards and foster cross-functional engagement.
- Act as a point of contact with defense customers (e.g., DND, US DoD) for configuration and sustainment documentation, audits, and reporting.
- Monitor team workloads and project priorities to ensure timely delivery of CM services.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of CM documentation including Configuration Management Plans, CDRLs, audit reports, and training materials.
- Lead internal CM process audits and support external quality and compliance audits.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in Configuration Management or related engineering documentation control within a manufacturing or defense environment.
- At least 2 years of team leadership or management experience in a CM or document control function.
- Certification in Configuration Management (CM2) is highly desirable.
- Proficient with PLM (preferably Aras Innovator) and ERP systems; implementation experience is an asset.
- Deep knowledge of relevant standards: EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61A, ISO 9001.
- Desirable Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) software proficiency, with experience in maintaining existing product designs.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with an emphasis on mentoring and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Eligible for a Canadian Security Clearance to the level of Secret II.
