Primary Purpose of the Role

As an R&D Engineer, you will create value by designing, developing, and improving products or processes through experimentation, testing, and innovation. You will work with the R&D team and cross-functionally to create new technologies and/or refine existing ones that meet customer needs relative to industry standards or greater, enabling this company to win in the markets that they serve.

Essential Job Duties
  • Conduct technology research and prototype development.
  • Utilize the scientific method and data analysis with a creative approach to identify new opportunities and solve complex problems.
  • Apply statistical analysis techniques to trial data, developing key observations and conclusions.
  • Write thorough and detailed Trial Plans & Trial Reports based on standard formats.
  • Develop product designs, including material & finished product specifications for use by product managers, operations, technical support, and others.
  • Solve customer & consumer issues by using knowledge and resources from adjacent categories and internal and external sources.
  • Lead raw material initiatives to support customer objectives related to improving quality, cost, and converting performance, working collaboratively with procurement, marketing, and operations.
  • Partner with operations and engineering teams to advance manufacturing capabilities and make impactful changes to how their products are made.
  • Support Analytical Troubleshooting within the production plants.
  • Provide functional support in materials optimization and problem-solving for fibers, polymers, inks, and additives used in production.
  • Monitor the market (domestic and international) to identify new product technologies to explore the potential to improve products/processes.
  • Continue personal development of knowledge and skills to be recognized as an effective implementer of research principles, scientific analysis, and project management.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • 7+ years in consumer products technical, engineering, and/or operations.
  • Strong organization and project management skills to manage cross-functional projects with demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines.
  • Demonstrates evidence of strong problem-solving skills including identifying problems, potential problems, and developing solutions; must be able to analyze complex data, situations, and develop a range of solutions.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage dependencies and drive the team together toward successful product completion and roll-out.
  • Demonstrated performance in the areas of leadership, management-of-change, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.
