Job Summary:

As a Senior Analyst on the AML Analytics team within Risk Products & Services, you'll support Central 1's Payment Growth Strategy by helping bring our new Enterprise Transaction Monitoring (ETM) system to life. Your work will shape how we detect and manage AML/ATF risks and ensure we stay ahead of compliance needs.

You'll lead the development and refinement of data strategies, manage the ETM system post-implementation, and act as a subject matter expert to support our credit union partners and payments clients. This role blends analytics, regulatory expertise, and collaboration across teams.

If you're energized by solving tough problems, working with data, and driving meaningful impact in a high-collaboration environment-you'll thrive here.

What you'll be doing
  • Identify money laundering and other financial crime risks using data analysis and industry insights; recommend actions to reduce exposure.
  • Use a variety of data sources to uncover trends, streamline risk detection, and reduce time-to-action.
  • Develop and maintain AML/ATF and sanctions detection rules and models-ranging from simple to complex-to flag suspicious activity.
  • Dive into large datasets to find patterns, correlations, and insights that can improve risk models.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand risk trends, product vulnerabilities, and compliance needs.
  • Work with internal data owners and external vendors to enhance model inputs and effectiveness.
  • Use data visualization tools to monitor model performance and present findings.
  • Produce regular reports (weekly, monthly, ad hoc) with insights and recommendations for leadership.
  • Analyze KPIs to evaluate the impact of current AML, Risk, and Compliance strategies.
  • Prepare summaries and data-driven responses for complex issues or senior leadership escalations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support investigations and risk assessments.
  • Stay informed about Central 1's products and infrastructure to help develop relevant, practical solutions.
  • Pitch in on other tasks as needed to support our clients and strategic goals.

What you'll have:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in analytics; AML/ATF analytics is a bonus.
  • Strong understanding of AML practices, policies, and procedures, especially in large, complex organizations.
  • Familiar with AML/ATF/Sanctions screening tools and technology-based solutions.
  • Good grasp of AML risks and how to reduce them.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian regulations (FINTRAC, OSFI) and global standards like FATF.
  • Understanding of the payments industry is helpful.
  • Strong at building relationships, negotiating, and leading teams across different departments.
  • Comfortable speaking with executives and influencing decisions.
  • Thinks strategically and can also execute day-to-day tasks.
  • Independent and confident-works well with teams but also speaks up when needed.
  • Passionate about innovation and solving challenging problems.

Analytical & Technical Skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills-able to spot patterns in AML data and find ways to improve detection.
  • Proficient with analytical tools and techniques.
  • Experienced in data transformation and architecture.
  • Analytics: Skilled in SQL, Python, R, and other tools used to build and monitor models.
  • Data Visualization: Proficient in Tableau and Power BI.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS (S3, Aurora, Lambda, EC2, Athena).
  • Databases: Knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, and Hadoop Hive.
