The Senior Director, Culture and Organizational Development, reporting to the Chief People Officer, will lead organization-wide efforts to foster an inclusive, engaged, and future-ready workforce. This visionary leader will develop and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy, drive culture and leadership transformation as the organization integrates innovative solutions and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) into its organizational practices. This role is essential in advancing a culture aligned with the organization's mission, values, and evolving needs in the nonprofit healthcare space. This role will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to enhance employee engagement.

This position will curate solutions that will help our leaders and team members to be equipped to drive development and deliver strong retention outcomes by designing and executing employee experience and engagement initiatives. Assess and evaluate organizational needs for programs and initiatives such as leadership development, group process approaches and team building, coaching, organizational transformation, and employee engagement. Design, implement and administer training and programming that is aligned with priorities to optimize individual, team and organizational performance and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a transformational culture strategy that supports the organization's mission and adapts to the integration of AI and emerging technologies.


  • Design and manage large-scale organizational change initiatives focused on culture, innovation, and employee engagement.


  • Use data-driven insights to assess organizational climate and guide continuous improvement.


  • Lead the design and implementation of an organization-wide learning and development strategy aligned with organizational priorities and future workforce needs.


  • Oversee the creation and delivery of leadership development programs for senior leaders and frontline managers.


  • Implement competency-based learning models and digital learning tools to scale development across the organization.


  • Promote transparent communication and support structures to navigate workforce shifts driven by technology.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive a high-impact onboarding process to quickly engage new employees and ensure their success and retention. Closely monitor results of onboarding surveys, analyze results and suggest program modifications.


  • Design, plan and deliver engaging experiences for senior leaders that enable them and their teams to move their goals forward. Collaborate with the Director of Employee Relations and organizational leaders to champion the performance management process. Ensure the leadership team is equipped to translate organizational goals into department and individual goals. Ensure leaders are well-prepared and trained to create challenging and measurable goals and conduct effective performance and development programs. Continually gather feedback to understand how the process can be improved to drive organization success.


  • Provide coaching support to leaders, helping them develop their leadership skills and address complex organizational challenges.


  • Lead the engagement of department/program leadership to create action plans, develop processes and programs to address opportunities to improve employee engagement and morale by deploying and analyzing engagement data from internal resources and surveys, as well as external resources.


  • Lead the strategy, design, and company-wide execution of embedding company values and behaviors into every step in the employee lifecycle and aligning to a broader organization talent strategy, workplace efforts and culture initiatives.


  • Guide teams in resolving role ambiguities and other organizational challenges.


  • Develop and oversee leadership development programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities and effectiveness of the senior leaders and managers across the organization.


  • Identify specific development needs for executives and create personalized growth plans that include coaching, mentoring, and training opportunities.


  • Lead the development and execution of employee training, leadership development, and engagement strategies that drive high performance and a culture of continuous learning


  • Develop and track meaningful metrics to measure the impact of employee engagement initiatives on organizational performance and productivity


  • Oversee the planning for employee recognition and other employee engagement related events and programs, ensuring high-quality execution and alignment with IOA's vision and standards


  • Create and implement comprehensive leadership and professional development programs that align with IOA's organizational goals and enhance team member skills and capabilities


  • Design and implement development programs that address competency gaps and enhance career growth, succession planning, and organizational learning


  • Lead initiatives to develop and strengthen employee engagement strategies that reflect IOA's unique culture, values, and commitment to diversity and inclusion


  • Work with internal teams and external partners to implement surveys and feedback mechanisms that provide insights into employee satisfaction and engagement, using data to drive improvements


  • Collaborate with leaders to integrate cultural imperatives into organizational processes, communications, and decision-making


  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy that aligns with organizational goals and enhances employee engagement.


Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Leadership, Business Administration, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.


Experience:

  • 10+ years of applicable experience in organizational development, with a focus on leadership development or organizational effectiveness, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.


  • Certification and/or relevant experience in change management, organizational development, or executive coaching.


  • Strategic and data-driven leader with a passion for executive talent management, exceling at building high-performing teams and achieving measurable outcomes.


  • Skilled at driving business outcomes through targeted learning interventions; comfortable influencing leaders on the appropriate use of learning to drive business outcomes.


  • Extensive experience guiding teams at all levels through behavioral change


  • Experience in building, delivering and facilitating workshops and training sessions


  • Track record of partnering with organizational collaborators to drive clarity and alignment


  • Ability to work at all levels of an organization with ease, develop effective relationships, coupled with excellent facilitation skills, communication skills, and presentation skills.


  • Change agility is required, with the ability to effectively anticipate, prepare for, facilitate, lead, and support sustainable change.


  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, demonstrate sophisticated relationship management skills, and navigate complex stakeholder dynamics with ease.


  • Proven people leader with the ability to inspire, motivate and mentor.


  • Strong expertise in culture-building, change management, and organizational design.


  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.


  • Highly skilled in designing and delivering training to diverse audiences, including senior leadership


  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, managing multiple initiatives simultaneously


  • A commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.


  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing competency-based leadership and management development programs.


  • Experience working within complex, mission-driven organizations with diverse stakeholders.


  • Familiarity with AI integration and its impact on workforce dynamics.


  • Expertise in organizational development theories, models, and best practices.


  • Knowledge of DEIB principles and strategies.


  • Skilled in adult learning theory and instructional design, especially for senior leadership development.


  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and digital learning platforms.


  • Strong understanding of change management frameworks.


  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire cross-functional collaboration.


  • Skilled at presenting complex information in accessible formats for varied audiences.


  • Proven ability to foster psychological safety, inclusion, and a learning culture.


  • Proficient in assessing organizational culture and climate through data collection and analysis.


  • Ability to set measurable outcomes and use analytics to track the impact of programs and interventions.


  • Skilled at using surveys, interviews, and focus groups for evaluation and needs assessment.


Working Conditions: This position requires a collaborative approach with a hybrid work schedule with 2-3 days per week in-person in the San Francisco office and involves occasional travel throughout the State of California (20% travel).
