OVERVIEW:

The Vice President of Risk Management, will be responsible for formulating and leading the development of an enterprise-wide risk management strategy, oriented towards the affordable housing industry. We are seeking a tenured Affordable Housing Risk Management Professional that has produced significant financial results in the areas of property management safety, both for our residents as well as our site employees. Regulatory compliance expertise, regarding LHITC, Section 8 and HUD as it relates to effective claim management and being attentive to meeting regulatory deadlines.

RESPONSIBILTIES:
Oversee the Risk Management Department directing, planning, and administering a comprehensive and evolving risk management program including insurance policy administration, evidence-based risk assessments, claims management, loss prevention, and contract review.
Work closely with insurance consultants and brokers, collaborate with our Legal, People and Culture, Property Management, Development, Asset Management, Accounting and Construction Division.
Serving on various leadership committees that address risk management issues.
Oversee planning, direction, and forecasting of the annual budget for Risk Management.
Oversee the development and implementation of management tools and data-based reports to identify risk and recommend methods to eliminate, reduce, finance or transfer risks and measure compliance with these programs.
Effectively communicate risk management policies, procedures, and education, including integration of a Risk Management and Safety Website as a primary communications channel.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory safety and environmental requirements to ensure policies and procedures maintain compliance.
Oversee the operation of the Company environmental program including hazard identification, documentation, communication, risk treatment insurance, and reporting.
Establish and direct the corporate risk-financing alternatives to provide broadest possible coverage at the lowest possible costs.
Oversee the renewal and administration of all insured and self-insured (captive) programs maintaining an in-depth knowledge of these programs.
Manage and direct the evaluation of and negotiation and purchase of insurance products including development of specifications and recommendation of new coverage where appropriate.
Oversee and lead Evergreen Insurance Company and the captive manager performance relative to coverage, claims, actuarial process, and financial results.
Direct and oversee risk transfer programs which review and interpret insurance and indemnification and hold harmless provisions in business and development agreements, construction contracts, lease and management agreements to ensure the Company is not assuming unintended third-party liability or liability for damages for which it has no insurance coverage.
Oversee the claims process including incident reporting, claims administration activity with claims personnel, TPA's, brokers and carriers.
Actively participate with legal and claims adjusters in the strategy and settlement of insurance related litigation.
Collaborate and coordinate with Company departments to identify and implement corrective action where appropriate.
Develop and direct a plan to review and analyze various Risk Management Information Systems functionalities and make recommendations to executive management as appropriate.
Review and recommend as appropriate new initiatives in strategic planning, design, and development of a company-wide system of enterprise risk management which will lead to a corporate environment in which risk assessment and risk management are integrated into all business practices and decision-making activities. Implement methodologies for collecting/analyzing risk related data and information investigate and analyze root causes, patterns or trends that could result in compensatory or sentinel events.
Oversee Risk Management staff management, including recruitment, hiring of new staff members and performance of risk staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:
10-15 years + relevant Affordable Housing Risk Management experience with demonstrated insurance policy administration.
10-15 years+ knowledge of principles and practices of risk management activities such as risk identification/ reduction, loss control, asset protection, employee safety, workers compensation.
Expertise in Captive Insurance, ratio methodology, underwriting and claims management.
Ability to conduct research, collect and analyze data and financial impact, as well as prepare written and oral reports.

Education/ Training:

Bachelor's degree in business from an accredited college or university with concentration in Risk Management, ERM, or related field and/ or associate in risk management ARM).

The base salary for this position is $175,000-$185,000. The actual compensation may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, location, etc. This range does not include additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
