The Assistant Director Of Pharmacy provides effective development and management of the clinical activities of pharmacy personnel who provide consultative, distributive and educational services to assigned Pharmacy areas. The incumbent will have a significant role in the administration or preparation of the departments or the organization's budget.

Summary
The Assistant Director Of Pharmacy provides effective development and management of the clinical activities of pharmacy personnel who provide consultative, distributive and educational services to assigned Pharmacy areas. The incumbent will have a significant role in the administration or preparation of the departments or the organization's budget.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, continually monitoring, and evaluating the quality of operational and clinical pharmaceutical services provided to a managed care population.
- Evaluates existing pharmaceutical services for effectiveness and productivity, justifies and plans for expansion/contraction of services.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationship with the medical directors, providers, clinical management departments, executive and managerial staff, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Utilization Analysis Committee, Member Affairs & Benefits Committee, Pharmacy Benefits Management companies and others impacting upon the cost, utilization and analysis of pharmacy services.
- Assures the development of policies and procedures relevant to (pharmacy) Utilization Analysis and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees.
- Reviews and evaluates pharmacy utilization data.
- Establishes effective strategies to maximize value via therapeutic effectiveness and appropriate cost reduction strategies.
- Maintains clinical competency and up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy operations, technology, service philosophies, and managed care industry trends by attending local and national continuing education programs and keeping abreast of literature.
- Utilizes this knowledge to continuously upgrade and improve the pharmaceutical services of the division of managed care.
- Assures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements within scope of Pharmacy services.
- Assures that a minimum required drug inventory is maintained.
- Participates in national, state, and local professional association activities, meetings, and seminars keeping abreast of new developments in the provision of comprehensive pharmacy services.
- Maintains liaison with the Colleges of Pharmacy and designs and coordinates the externship and internship educational programs for assigned areas.
- Periodically consults with practitioners in the field.
- Upholds the organizational objective to have qualified clinicians accountable to the organization for decisions affecting consumers.

- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
- Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience.
- Management experience is required.
- Residency (PGY) training is preferred.
Education
