The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), has an exciting opportunity for a person who enjoys working for a stable organization that strives every day to support the public good and make a difference. The ideal candidate for the Software Engineer position must have excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with those we serve.
This is a full-time position which will allow a person to work In-office, hybrid, or fully remote. The position would be based out of NIPR's offices located in Kansas City, MO.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Associates Degree in Applied Science specific to Computer Science. Five years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
COMPENSATION:
$83,846 - $115,000, to be commensurate with education and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Implements application design by utilizing development languages and tools.
- Develops and executes test plans (unit testing) for assigned projects.
- Ensures the code is scalable and meets performance requirements for assigned projects through performance tuning.
- Develops applications according to business and technical requirements as received.
- Delivers quality code on time that meets requirements and specifications.
- Writes and maintains documentation on any technical development completed.
- Follows NIPR accepted guidelines on version control for all technical development.
- Follows the NIPR project methodology.
- Troubleshoots and resolves data and application software problems as assigned.
- Operates under moderate supervision in person, partially or fully remote working conditions.
- Regularly review the problem tracking system to assist in communication and prioritize issues.
- Maintains systems and programs by aiding user groups in problem resolution and providing technical solutions to resolve software or system logic problems.
- Provides excellent customer service to our customers both internally and externally.
- Displays willingness to work effectively and learn.
- Utilizes SQL and other tools to assist in data manipulation and other tasks.
- Serves as a mentor to less experienced staff
- Provides technical design and analysis.
- Keeps up with self-development on changing technology.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have experience in Java.
- Must have experience in JDBC or JPA.
- Must have experience in Spring and JEE.
- Strongly prefer experience in JBoss or Tomcat.
- Must have experience in SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL.
- Must have experience in REST APIs.
- Must have experience in JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Java Servlets, and JSP.
- Strongly prefer experience in Linux.
- Strongly prefer experience in AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud technologies.
- Strongly prefer experience in Kubernetes.
- Strongly prefer experience in Container technologies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Associates Degree in Applied Science specific to Computer Science. Five years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of the entire development life cycle is preferred (analysis, design, construction, implementation, and following it through to the evolution phases).
- AWS certifications (Developer Associate, DevOps Engineer Professional).
COMPENSATION:
$83,846 - $115,000, to be commensurate with education and experience.
