Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Vice President, External Communications is responsible for shaping and executing strategic communication initiatives for the Advertising and Partnership's division that amplify the company's voice and elevate its presence within the media and advertising landscape.

This role will serve as a key decision-maker, providing guidance on corporate storytelling, press relations, crisis communications, and positioning strategies that align with overarching business goals. Collaborating closely with senior executives, this role is tasked with driving innovation, developing team capabilities, managing tentpole events, and fostering relationships with key industry stakeholders and media outlets.

A proven leader, the Vice President of External Communications will not only oversee the development and implementation of high-profile communication efforts but also mentor and inspire a dynamic team to achieve excellence. By staying ahead of industry trends and competitors, this role will ensure the company remains at the forefront of compelling narratives, impactful storytelling, and effective market positioning within advertising and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Vice President, External Communications will serve as a cornerstone of the Advertising and Partnerships team's success, ensuring the company achieves its strategic communication objectives while fostering growth, creativity, and industry leadership.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive external communication strategies that reflect NBCUniversal's brand and market position.
  • Partner with various NBCUniversal teams to deliver a cohesive message that fits into the broader NBCUniversal message
  • Elevate the company's presence in the marketplace, focusing on innovation and strategic narratives.
  • Provide senior leadership oversight for tentpole events, ensuring communications goals are achieved effectively -managing prep and c-suite leaders.
  • Identify, establish, & maintain personal relationships with key contacts in the press and industry influencers to help advance the business' communications goals.
  • Build and nurture relationships with external stakeholders including client and partner communications teams.
  • Work closely with leadership teams to understand business goals and effectively communicate them externally through traditional and non-traditional outlets.
  • Grow and develop communications talent and manage overall workload with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in crisis communication and complex situations.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Seasoned communications leader in the advertising space with a minimum of 12 years of experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of ad tech, with experience in CTV, FAST, Programmatic or data-driven measurement.
  • Experience managing and motivating a team.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of traditional and non-traditional media and industry influencers, along with a good understanding of the economic marketplace and technology space.
  • Proven writing skills, with examples of published written work like op-eds, white papers, and data reports.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with strong cross-functional collaboration skills, and an enterprise-mentality ensuring aligning with broader enterprise goals.

  • NY-Based with ability to travel, and flexibility to work as needed.
  • In-office requirement of 3 days a week minimum.

Salary range: $190,000 - $235,000 (SIC and long-term incentive eligible)
