Lockheed Martin Space in Huntsville, AL has an immediate opening for a Software Safety Engineer to help field a new missile defense system that the nation urgently needs. In this role, you will use your expertise to ensure that safety is crafted into hardware and software products and that controls are incorporated and remain effective while assuring compliance to safety requirements.
Generation and maintenance Software Safety Program Plans (SSPP) including SW Level of Rigor (LOR)
Defining hardware/software safety requirements and ensuring flow-down into the Systems Engineering SW process
Assist in performing a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, to include Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Software Safety Hazard Analysis
Assist in reviewing engineering design specifications, SW development, change proposals, deficiency reports, and deviation/waiver requests for safety impacts
Support SW integration and qualification testing
Participate in incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses
Assist in preparation of presentations, analyses, and reports for government safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a software discipline or equivalent experience/combined education.
Familiar with Engineering design and associated product lifecycle
Familiar with Software Engineering processes and agile SW development methods
Interim Secret security clearance required to start.

Desired skills
Understanding how to prove that software meets the Level of Rigor defined by its Software Criticality Index in accordance with MIL-STD-882E.
Prior experience working with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other Department of Defense (DOD) customers.
Familiarity or experience with missile systems, ordnance, and software.
Prior experience in the testing environment of a launch range or facility or been involved in a flight test.
Familiarity or experience with processes as outlined in MIL-STD-882E.
Experience in System Safety Engineering processes as outlined in MIL-STD-882E with strong technical skills in performing hazard analyses, identifying safety requirements, developing fault trees, and recommending risk mitigation.
Experience with the DOORS and/or CAMEO tools.

Ability to work remotely

Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

Premium Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $98,300 - $170,315. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
