EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's Degree in sports management, physical education or any educational related field from an accredited college or university
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, a plus
Four years' coaching and/or school administration related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
Mid-Management or Principal Certification by the State Board for Educator Certification, a plus
CERTIFICATION : Valid Texas Teaching Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Responsible for directing the complete Athletic and Physical Education programs for North East Independent School District (NEISD) including the care and preparation of Blossom Athletic Center, Heroes Stadium, North East Sports Park, NEISD Softball Complex and the Basse/McCullough Sports Fields. Responsible for all budget procedures and supervision of coaches in the area of athletics. Works closely with campus administration to ensure a successful campus athletic/PE program.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, administers, and supervises all athletic programs for North East Independent School District students including scheduling, supervision and compliance with all policies and procedures.
2. Supervises, assigns, controls, plans, and oversees all proceedings and budgets at Blossom Athletic Center, Heroes Stadium, North East Sports Park, NEISD Softball Complex and the Basse/McCullough Sports Fields.
3. Consults, advises, and makes recommendations to the appropriate Central Office Department.
4. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coordinator/head coach, athletics coaches, and staff members. Coordinates this effort with the appropriate administration, including the Chief of Schools and Leadership, executive directors and principals.
5. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) requirements.
6. Identifies professional development and leadership opportunities to strengthen the District athletic program.
7. Manages District athletic operations including directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities.
8. Implements district student management policies, communicates expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensures enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code and Conduct and student athletic handbook.
9. Supports all campus athletic events by attending events, including those that occur out of town.
10. Develops and maintains a public relations and communications program which fosters good school, business, and community partnerships.
11. Serves as the Superintendent's designee to oversee the operations and compliance of the District Executive Committee (DEC) in accordance with UIL rules and regulations regarding protests or reports of violations concerning eligibility and other violations of the Constitution and/or Contest Rules that occur within the District.
12. Prepares, composes, and oversees all bids for athletic equipment including medical supplies.
13. Meets, discusses, implements, directs, and collaborates with administrators and coaches to meet the needs of students and athletic programs.
14. Meets, discusses, and collaborates with other athletic directors in the preparation and implementation of all sports schedules.
15. Attends all district meetings in all sports and arranges for play-off participation by teams in all sports.
16. Organizes, implements, trains, and directs special in-service programs for coaches in techniques, safety, insurance, philosophy, policy implementations, and other areas as needed.
17. Supervises the Physical Education and Health program.
18. Maintains confidentiality of information.
19. Reports to work on time every day.
20. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:- Demonstrated knowledge of all athletic rules and regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of the overall operations of an athletic program
- Demonstrated knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
- Strong organizational, communication, management, public relations and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to correctly write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to see at night under a variety of circumstances.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
