Job Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for daily activities relating to Design of new products in addition to sustaining existing business activity. The Design Engineer role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities from initial design and 3D modeling of parts through to Design Realization.

The candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Security Clearance as required, holding a security clearance is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design of 3D CAD models with CATIA V5 from customer specifications using solid and surfacing techniques.
  • Produce fully detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings from 3D models or 2D drawings/sketches using CATIA V5.
  • Interpret customer drawings and specifications to develop part designs that meet application and operating requirements
  • Incorporating designs into existing framework/structure, working with customers on structure modifications where necessary.
  • Creation of 3D CAD models for the production of tooling and rapid prototyping.
  • Managing specific projects through liaison with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to preparing optimum design solutions.
  • Development and testing of new or existing products to meet customer requirements.
  • Prepare detailed installation drawings, catalogue masters and technical literature.
  • Manage and continuously update the document management system to provide a history of all drawings, correspondence, documents and approvals with regards to specific projects, standards and technical data.
  • Maintaining the link between the document management system and the MRP system to ensure all departments work to the required specifications and standards.
  • Prepare and contribute to relevant parts of cost enquiries, design reviews, design standards, technical proposals and other associated documentation whilst being responsible for that content and its accuracy.
  • Prepare and analyze Qualification Test Plans and Reports and interpret the results taking action as required.
  • Assisting the Quality Assurance department in providing design information for documentation and audits so as to conform to the regulations set out by governing bodies such as the CAA and FAA, as well as the standards set by individual customers.
  • Support sales activities by way of technical support and/or presentations at customer premises.
  • Awareness of cost effects of design decisions and implementing the most effective solutions available whilst maintaining a good relationship with all departmental personnel.
  • Support platform based business in the US and abroad, by providing extra resource in design where necessary in similar product groups.
  • Implementing and working within AS9100 quality system standard for supplying to the Aerospace industry.


Qualifications
  • Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Previous experience in DOE, DFM and FMEA
  • Reasoning skills for problem identification and resolution
  • Previous experience in an elastomeric background would be advantageous
  • Lean skills and tools exposure advantageous
  • Computer literate; able to utilize MS Office Suite
  • Must excel at working in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate detailed, technical initiatives to non-technical people.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively handle outside auditors and customers with tact and professionalism, resolving issues and building positive relationship.
  • Previous experience with FEA and simulation software would be a plus

Education/Previous Experience Requirements
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment
