The Work

Reporting to the Director, AML Data, Analytics and Operations, the Senior Manager, AML Transaction Monitoring, leads the AML transaction monitoring analytics supporting Equitable Bank's enterprise-wide AML/ATF program. The Senior Manager is accountable for execution of the strategy on data, tools, and analytics related to the transaction monitoring of AML/TF program. The environment is fast-paced and requires the effective time management of multiple tasks and projects.

AML/ATF Transaction Monitoring (TM) Detection
    • Develop, execute and maintain the Bank's AML/ATF TM model development standards, including sampling methodology.
    • Design, develop and enhance AML/ATF TM rules/scenarios to be compliant with dynamic regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Tune existing rules/scenarios to reduce false positives and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of TM program.
    • Document the rule/scenario/model methodology, process, assumptions etc. to enhance model governance and meet requirements of audit and regulatory exams.
    • Work with IT, data teams and compliance teams to integrate models into monitoring platforms and systems.


AML Data
    • Supporting executing complex, cross-functional data, and technology projects to continue scaling AML operations; work with other internal functional support groups and external suppliers and business partners.
    • Support projects within the AML team to continuously improve and enhance end-to-end operational workflow through tools and technology.
    • Work with cross-functional internal stakeholders to define and act as subject matter expert for AML requirements for data, models and analytics.
    • Perform testing and data validation related to projects impacting AML controls and proactively escalate issues that may impact the effectiveness of the AML program.

Team Management
    • Manage and develop a high performing TM analytics team.
    • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
    • Provide timely and effective feedback to staff.
    • Identify and make recommendations to VP and Director on staffing resource requirements needed to adequately execute on key strategic objectives of the team.
    • Identify appropriate training opportunities or external courses in order to improve staff effectiveness.


Client Relationship Management
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the compliance teams, business client, risk management and technology to complete AML projects.
    • Provide technical input to technology, other model developers and/or risk management groups in the development and implementation of rules and models.
    • Escalate difficult or complex project-related client issues to VP and Director or the Project Manager for timely resolution.
    • Where appropriate, collaborate with key internal stakeholders to address findings from the MRM, Internal Audit or external stakeholders; create actions plans where appropriate to address the findings and ensure models are compliant with regulatory standards.


General
    • Proactively work with other members of the Compliance and AML team to solicit their views continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Promote a positive work environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and synergies.
    • Support the AML leadership team with monitoring and testing activities, including escalations from business units, as applicable.
    • Participate in various internal/external workshops/seminars/conferences to remain current in the AML/ATF landscape (e.g., maintain CAMS, ACFCS, etc. certification).


Let's Talk About You!
    • A university degree, preferably in Mathematics, Mathematical Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics or equivalent quantitative background.
    • 5-8years' years of TM data and analytics experience in financial industry.
    • 3+ years of experience leading a team.
    • Regulatory expertise related to AML/ATF systems and controls.
    • CAMS/ACFCS certified is an asset.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to set strong examples for staff.
    • Ability to lead/influence others to achieve goals.
    • Excellent analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to successfully handle multiple competing priorities, projects, and timelines.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills required to communicate AML knowledge, keep stakeholders informed, and communicate requirements to external vendors.
    • Excellent knowledge of statistical methods. Knowledge of machine learning methods is an asset.
    • Advance programming skills of Python and at least one of other programming languages/tools (e.g., R).
    • Advanced skills using statistical and data science related packages (pandas, numpy, scipy, slearn).
    • Advanced knowledge of SQL is required.
    • Developed project management and time management skills.
    • Strong technical documentation and report writing skills.
    • Solid and proven communication skills.
    • Must be able to work in a high volume, fast paced ever changing environment.
