Job Description

The Project Developer leads the development and implementation of large energy generation, infrastructure, and other capital projects. The Project Developer is responsible for the planning, design, and approval processes of new projects which lay the groundwork for expanding company energy infrastructure. As the leader of development of many different projects, this role oversees the study, design, land rights, community relations, permitting and preconstruction processes to ensure timely implementation of projects.

This position maintains key business, public and stakeholder relationships and includes interaction with landowners, county, state and federal government employees, contractors, consultants, community and state organizations, and other stakeholders and coordinates with other departments to complete development of complex multi-stage energy infrastructure projects such as wind, solar, energy storage, thermal generation, nuclear generation, communications and other capital intensive utility infrastructure projects. The position supports various calculations, reports, analyses, document control, project scheduling and other activities needed to complete due diligence, development and construction activities.

Responsibilities

Support activities for self-developed energy generation and infrastructure projects as well as due diligence efforts, contracting and oversight of projects purchased from developers. Complete the due diligence and support contracting related to the purchase of operating assets.

Oversee development activities including site evaluation, land acquisition, title policy coverage, environmental and other studies, obtaining interconnection rights, completing resource and energy assessments. (25%)

Influence positive permitting outcomes and ensure permit compliance at the local, state, and federal levels for complex energy infrastructure projects by working with landowners, contractors, other developers, advocates, and county, state, and federal officials. (25%)

Support reporting, forecasting and various calculations and analysis supporting the development and construction of energy infrastructure projects. Support state regulatory proceedings related to infrastructure projects. (15%)

Perform activities supporting contract negotiation efforts and quality assurance for land contracts and development and operating asset purchases. (10%)

Monitor and report on performance related to compliance, budget, schedule and quality for all site development some construction activity. (10%)

Represent the company across the region at informational events and in meetings with developers, consultants, contractors, inspectors, landowners, community and state organizations, government officials, and other stakeholders. (10%)

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, public relations, government affairs, engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Three or more years of energy project development, permitting, or complex energy infrastructure related experience.

Six years of energy project development, permitting, or complex energy infrastructure related experience required for the project manager level.

Eight years of energy project development, permitting, or complex energy infrastructure related experience required for the sr. project manager level.

Ten or more years of energy project development, permitting, or complex energy infrastructure related experience required for the lead project manager level.

Willingness to travel to various sites in or near company service territory.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective organization, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Planning and budgeting skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues, tasks and projects concurrently.
