Job Description

ADGA is hiring a Senior Radio Frequency Architect to provide the services of a Subject Matter Expert to support the engineering and sustainment of Tactical Communications (TacComms) Radio Frequency (RF) bearer equipment, firmware and systems, including combat net radios, line-of-sight data radios, wide area microwave, and satellite communication subsystems.

The Senior Radio Frequency Architect must provide expert engineering, specialist, and sustainment embedded support to the ongoing development and sustainment of TacComms RF bearers.

Tasks will include:
  • Draft, review and/or provide comments on the RF bearer Certification Plans, Certification Reports, Authorization for Use, In-Process Accounting Plans, Production Plans, Security Communication Plans, Key Management and Distribution Plans & Solutions and Site Connectivity Checklists;
  • When directed, liaise with Other Government Departments including the Canadian Security Establishment, Public Services and Procurement Canada Industrial Security Division and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada;
  • Draft Tasks SOW for sponsored work with Other Government Departments;
  • Provide technical advice on tactical RF bearer systems to guide Mobile Domain Steering Committee (SC) and Mobile Domain Architecture Working Group, Mobile Domain trials, System Management tool capabilities (Planner, Platform, SPEED), and future TacComms technology capability development and planning (including operational requirements, software defined radio standards compliance, radio systems interfaces and interoperability, spectrum interoperability, as examples);
  • Advise on RF bearer system technologies at a level of expertise sufficient to help guide the strategy for the program execution and project planning;
  • Liaise with architects and designers to align RF bearer engineering development with Mobile Domain requirements. Advise and guide CNRE SPRs, observations, and enhancements;
  • Advise on problem reports, enhancements and associated designs to be considered as part of each next system baseline for RF bearer firmware and the overall roadmap;
  • Advise on work priority to ensure stability and robustness are maintained and high value enhancements are implemented;
  • Participate in and advise on technical investigations for improving TacComms RF bearer capabilities;
  • Advise and assist on regression qualification activities, participate in qualification testing activities, advise and assist on obtaining Functional Configuration Audit (FCA) / Physical Configuration Audit (PCA) of hardware and firmware, and assist in monitoring progress and SI activities;
  • Provide advice in the field of RF propagation theory and application;
  • Conduct IV&V on technical deliverables including but not limited to Specifications, Design Documents, Interface Control Documents, problem reports, test plan, test procedures and test reports;
  • Assist in representing RF bearer capabilities at Mobile Domain System level, to include reviewing CR and associated systems engineering activities and providing advice on impact and technical feasibility;
  • Provide advice on R&O activities; and
  • Provide LCMM support to RF bearer equipment and systems.


Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience supporting defence projects or programs.
  • Proof of Engineering Bachelor's degree in software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience performing a minimum of 4 of the following tasks:
    • Analyzing, Designing and Implementing military radio communications systems in both Narrow and Wide Bands;
    • Analyzing, Designing, architecting, modeling or implementing radio communications products or systems;
    • Analyzing, Designing, architecting, modeling or implementing radio communications waveforms;
    • Analyzing, Designing, modeling or implementing narrowband or wideband antennas;
    • Analyzing, Designing, modeling or implementing narrowband or wideband radio frequency propagation models;
    • Communications engineering and system security (Hardware, software and network), including cryptographic key, devices, hardware, firmware or software that embodies or describes cryptographic logic;
    • Radio Frequency Engineering for Real-Time systems, Distributed Systems, embedded systems or mission critical systems environments; and
    • Life-cycle management of radio communications systems.
  • A minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience performing a minimum of 4 of the following tasks:
    • Communicating information technology frameworks/ strategies to management and technical staff.
    • Communicating system engineering direction for projects or systems.
    • Providing advice, guidance and recommendations on technical issues to support the decision-making of senior management.
    • Leading multidisciplinary teams in the development of IT tactical systems, frameworks or strategies.
    • Performing strategic, operational or tactical planning for projects or systems to meet corporate strategy.
  • A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience within the last 10 years in the preparation of technical concept documents, system specifications, and technical proposals in the field of Information Technology / Information management or engineering (i.e. System, software, computer, communication, security, or simulation).
