Position Summary

The role of Chief Controls Office - Managing Director, Transformation & Remediation at Webster Bank will play a critical leadership role in overseeing and strengthening the bank's control environment. This individual will be responsible for leading Transformation initiatives across Front Line Control Office functions, including implementation of critical technology to advance key programs, while ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will bring significant expertise in leading transformational initiatives including large scale risk management technology implementations within the banking sector, and significant project management experience. This individual will be leading multiple strategic and transformational initiatives and supporting the delivery of critical, large-scale, complex, high-visibility, regulatory remediation programs.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute high-impact transformation projects aimed at enhancing the overall risk and control environment, aligning with organizational goals and regulatory expectations.
Drive the timely and effective remediation of internally-recognized and regulatory-identified weaknesses or deficiencies, ensuring that corrective actions are completed within established timelines and to regulatory standards.
Collaborate with key stakeholders across various business units, risk management, and compliance teams to ensure seamless execution of transformation and remediation efforts, fostering alignment and support for initiatives.
Continuously assess and improve the organization's risk and control framework, identifying areas for enhancement and leveraging transformation efforts to strengthen control mechanisms and mitigate risks.
Establish robust tracking, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to evaluate the progress and effectiveness of strategic initiatives and remediation efforts, providing clear updates to senior leadership and regulatory bodies as required.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines of defense. Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding transformation and remediation matters.
Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and improve methodologies and processes to adapt to changes in the regulatory environment, business operations, and emerging risks.
Policy & Procedure Development: Contribute to the development and update of policies and procedures related to Transformation & Remediation activities.

Requirements

Education:
  • Candidates with advanced degrees (Associates, Bachelor's, and/or Master's) preferred, yet a High School diploma or GED is required. Candidates with some combination of coursework and experience, or else extensive related professional experience, are eligible for consideration.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in program management, risk management, operational risk, or internal audit within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Prior success demonstrated with delivering on large scale transformation initiatives.

Knowledge:
  • Deep understanding of governance, change management, banking regulations, risk management frameworks, and internal control standards.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk management techniques and control assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of OCC Heightened Standards and Regulatory Category IV banking requirements preferred.

Skills:
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and build effective working relationships across business units and lines of defense.

  • Proficiency in risk management software and data analysis tools.


This role has a hybrid work schedule and can be based in our Waterbury, Southington and Stamford locations.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $170,000 USD to $210,000 USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
