WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Accounting Operations Supervisor is a hybrid eligible role, in our Reno, NV, or Monterey, CA locations.

JOB OVERVIEW:

As an Accounting Operations Supervisor, you manage premium accounting payment activities. Supervising the process surrounding Premium accounting related to direct, list, and Agency Bill AR. Monitors team results for receivables processing by exception and reports. Monitors accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of payments. Trains, assists, and provides guidance on the review of the payments from our policyholders. Establishes and maintains processes and procedures for premium accounting. Strategically plans departmental activities considering the state of the market and workflow needs. Formulates organizational policy that will have far reaching impact on the organization. Manages reports specific to the department and provides analysis of reports. Interprets, executes, and develops functional policies, procedures, and processes. Identifies system issues, recommend solutions, and follow through until resolution. Participates in new system projects and the implementation of new systems and enhancements.

Additionally, manages the Unclaimed Funds/Escheatment functions including filing of multiple annual states' reports, tracking of and customer service related to multi states stale dated checks, following up with claims, RPS and AP departments and their reviews regarding checks to determine legitimacy or if they can be voided without issue, related monthly GL balancing and processing of timely and accurate escheatment payments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies, researches, resolves, and follows up on issues and opportunities generated by the reconciliation of accounts, including any inefficiency of department policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and use of operational metrics for the organization, streamlining data collection and automation when possible.
  • Provides data and information to executives regarding bad debt and trends in overdue and collection activities.
  • Develops and leads a team of premium accounting professionals. Organizes team workloads, assigns projects, and manages resources and results.
  • Sets performance expectations, team and individual goals, and timelines in alignment with Department goals.
  • Provides regular feedback and coaching to team members. Mentors and develops team members to further their skills and knowledge; creates and monitors development plans.
  • Prepares and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Hires and develops employees and prepares disciplinary actions (including terminations).
  • Establishes and maintains the overall work cadence and, in partnership with other team leaders, ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience.
  • Ensures that direct reports are engaged and that leadership practices in the department encourage development, recognition, and retention.
  • Oversees the performance management and development process for direct reports and performs performance management duties, development planning, and coaching.
  • Managing the function and the various aspects of everything related to Unclaimed funds.
  • Analyze write-offs and fee income categories and become go to person being able to provide an understanding of trends in current and historical performance and making recommendations on how to better optimize results.
  • Any other operational functions that might be assigned in the future.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of advanced math and accounting concepts is required.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance and policy information.
  • In-depth knowledge of Business mathematics.
  • Working knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Basic SQL knowledge

Ability to:
  • Employ active listening Skills with the ability to test for understanding and express thoughts concisely.
  • Work accurately with detail on a consistent basis.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and must have some understanding of collection procedures.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work to meet critical deadlines.

Education and Experience:
  • Education in Accounting or a Business discipline. The position requires 5+ years of experience in accounting or banking.
  • Working knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word. Experience with automated accounting systems is preferred.


Salary range: $67,553 - $111,462

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs
