The OREM interacts with staff, students, faculty, university and external community members in order to assist in the delivery of core services that cross operational and departmental boundaries (e.g., registration, class and exam scheduling). It is important that students and our university colleagues are well-informed and well-supported by the OREM and the services offered.

Job Summary
Mandate/Core Purpose of Role:
The Associate Registrar (AR) advances the institution's vision and mission through strategic leadership and management for academic advising services, registrarial operations, and policy administration at UVic. Reporting to the Registrar, the AR oversees the Academic Advising for Humanities, Science and Social Sciences and Undergraduate Records and Graduation Services units. This role oversees the integration of both areas to enhance student engagement, learning, and success. Responsibilities include developing strategies aligned with UVic's enrolment and retention goals, and adopting industry best practices to elevate the student experience. The Associate Registrar will also contribute significantly to the institutional strategy on academic advising, and supporting the broader university community including faculty, instructors, and external partners. The AR ensures alignment of services with the university's strategic goals and enrolment plans, maintains data integrity, and upholds university standards to support student success and safeguard institutional reputation. Additionally, the AR collaborates with other Associate Registrars to optimize communication and system improvements.
Objective:
To enhance the academic and personal success of both domestic and international students through strategic leadership and management of comprehensive advising and support services, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic goals. This role aims to align these services with institutional goals for student retention, success and engagement, ensuring an inclusive and supportive educational environment. This role aims to optimize service delivery, maintain high standards of data integrity, and uphold university regulations to support student success and enhance the institution's reputation.

- Recruitment range: $115,274 - $144,093 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
- Performance range: $165,707 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Requirements
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, International Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of the trends and challenges in higher education, particularly regarding best practices in academic advising and student retention and success and records management.
- Familiarity with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), strategic enrolment management, and other relevant frameworks in student affairs.
- Familiarity with academic policies, compliance requirements, and best practices in data integrity, privacy and security.
- Comprehensive knowledge of enrolment management strategies and the ability to align these with institutional goals.
- Understanding of data integrity and security measures necessary for maintaining confidential and sensitive student information.
- Understanding of the academic, social, and cultural issues affecting both domestic and international students.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, with extensive knowledge in academic advising, registrarial operations, student services, and/or academic policy administration. Proven track record of managing comprehensive service delivery in a complex post-secondary environment.
- Experience in strategic planning, program development, and project management.
- Experience in policy development and risk management.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in managing complex administrative functions and leading diverse teams.
- Excellent decision-making capabilities with the ability to manage complex, sensitive and high-stakes situations involving policy, legal considerations, and university administration.
- Proficient in managing large budgets and resources, with a proven track record of efficient financial oversight.
- Advanced knowledge of university governance, policy interpretation, and application in a registrarial context.
- Advanced decision-making skills with the ability to analyze complex information, integrate diverse perspectives, and manage competing priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging and influencing a range of stakeholders including senior academic leaders.
