Director of Organizational Policy Implementation

Mission:

The Director of Organizational Policy is responsible for evaluating the efficacy of existing policies across the organization and laying out the groundwork for internal stakeholders to meet objectives and goals corresponding with policy revision and implementation. The position's duties include reviewing and amending existing policies, defining improvements needed and leading the project plan to improve their effects. This role is responsible for identifying benefits, disadvantages, and omissions in current policies while providing direction and advice that contributes to positive changes within the organization.

Location:

This is a full-time remote position based in (Texas/Louisiana/Florida/Arkansas/Ohio) with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations:

Travel to IDEA training events, board or policy related conferences, and/or team step-back may be required; less than 4 times per year.

What You'll Do - Accountabilities

Essential Duties:
  • Executes the vision and direction for policy work at IDEA and its affiliates so that internal stakeholders and external partners say "I know that policy, it lives here, and it means" by knowing how to access the current and historical versions of all policies, are able to access the tools and resources to understand what the current policies mean, and can correctly describe (and then execute) the policy process for creation or revision that is needed.
  • Creates, monitors, and trains stakeholders to use the platforms, data mechanisms, knowledge management tools, and other resources associated with the vision and direction for policy work.
  • Ensures policies are digestible, with clear administrative procedures and guidance for internal stakeholders.
  • Audits current policies and conducts research on existing policies to determine their effectiveness, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Creates a strategic plan for when audited policies will be revised.
  • Shepherds internal stakeholders identified as policy owners through the policy process, including the policy implementation planning process, ahead of committee and board meetings.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reviews policies for updates (annual, legislative, and procedural) as changes are implemented across the network and creates a strategic plan for monitoring and updating
  • Ensures policies have a consistent voice, tone, and style and a shared template
  • Reports on findings and propose new policies or amendments to existing policies
  • Liaises with stakeholders to determine needs and goals of policies
  • Articulates policy recommendations verbally and in writing to executive leadership
  • Audits and revising current policy process and develops policy implementation planning process
  • Ensures that policies and policy amendments meet legal requirements before being submitted to the board
  • Works with stakeholders to develop policy training plans for frontline team members so that policy implementation plans are executed.
  • Additional Duties as assigned.

Required experience:
  • 6-10 years related experience
  • Master's or doctorate degree


Preferred experience:
  • Experience with fiscal policies, preferred


Physical Requirements:
  • This is a sedentary position.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $89,600 and $105,300, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
