La Rabida Children's Hospital is hiring a full-time Clinical Nurse Supervisor (RN) for the Outpatient Clinic in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Supervisor is a registered nurse who will have the leadership responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of a multi-specialty pediatric outpatient clinic focusing on care for medically complex and developmentally disabled patients and their families. Responsibilities will include overseeing a team of clinical staff comprising of nurses, medical assistants, and others ensuring safe and quality based patient care delivery by monitoring staff performance, managing patient assignments, ensuring best practice clinical standards, and promoting staff development while adhering to regulatory compliance; serving as a key liaison between clinic staff and both clinic and hospital management to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the clinic.

Essential Clinical Nurse Supervisor Functions:

I. Clinical Oversight:

a. Monitoring clinic flow; identify and implement quick resolutions to ensure efficient operations.

b. Assessing and monitoring patient conditions, identifying potential complications, and intervening as needed.

c. Reviewing staff documentation of patient charts to ensure accuracy and compliance with clinical protocols.

d. Conduct routine observations of clinic staff, vitals intake, and rooming processes, ensuring that clinic standards are maintained.

e. Providing direct patient care, when needed, particularly in complex or critical situations.

II. Staff Supervision:

a. Collaborate with physicians and outpatient leadership in the development of staff training and competency programs.

b. Onboarding and training new clinic team members, conducting new employee and annual competency checks, providing ongoing feedback for real-time staff coaching and mentoring, and completion of annual performance reviews.

c. Ensuring that competencies remain up to date; ability to provide coverage when needed and assume the role to maintain clinic operations.

d. Addressing staff concerns and resolving conflicts related to peer communications and patient care.

e. Monitoring staff adherence to policies and procedures, ensuring quality standards maintained by conducting routine team meetings and sharing performance data.

III. Leadership and Management:

a. Creating, implementing, and maintaining clinic specific clinical practices and guidelines in conjunction with the clinic Medical Director.

b. Developing and managing staff schedules within designated HR/payroll management system, including facilitating coverage for absences and peak patient volumes.

c. Collaborating with clinic, hospital and outside healthcare professionals, including physicians, to coordinate patient care.

d. Identifying areas for improvement and implementing quality initiatives within the clinic and corresponding data metrics for reporting.

IV. Quality Assurance:

a. Collaborate and support the Medical Director in the development and implementation of biannual Outpatient Skills Day.

b. Conducting routine chart reviews to identify potential staff documentation issues and ensure timely follow-up with team members to ensure accuracy and adherence to clinic guidelines.

c. Ensuring that systems are in place to successfully meet and exceed NCQA, payer and organizationally implemented quality-based programs to maintain recognition standards and maximize incentive-based reimbursement opportunities.

d. Analyzing patient data to identify trends and opportunities areas for quality improvement and staff education.

e. Reporting incidents and near misses to appropriate authorities, ensuring proper follow-up; conduct root cause analysis and modify workflows not aligning with best practice clinical guidelines.

V. Compliance and Education:

a. Staying updated on current nursing practices, regulations, and industry standards.

b. Actively engages in and conducts staff training sessions on new procedures, policies, and equipment and other hospital-based training.

c. Tracks and maintains clinical staff certifications and licensure documentation, ensuring that all staff remain compliant.

d. Ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements related to patient care.

VI. Other Requirements:

Acquires and maintains basic certifications as required - BLS, PALS.

What we need from you:

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Related Work Experience: Pediatric nursing leadership experience preferred.

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Outpatient Clinic Operations, Leadership, Family Centered Philosophy

CPR required. Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.

Compensation Information:

Pay Range: $85k. - 100k.
