Dover Precision Components is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer, with valves experience, for our Cook Compression brand. This role will be ideally based at our South Houston/ Pearland, TX manufacturing and test lab facility.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

In this role, you will design, test, and develop new products and technologies in support of Dover Precision Components' valves product line for reciprocating compressors, as well as providing technical leadership in the development of an evolving product technology roadmap. The role is also expected to provide technical leadership to a highly skilled group of engineers and scientists. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Understands the needs of the reciprocating compressors market, creates innovative new product ideas to address these needs. Identifies new application areas for existing and new product lines.
  • Leads highly complex technical development projects related to compressor valves and contributes by designing new product prototypes and test set-ups, executing experiments, analyzing data and results, and reporting outcomes out to a cross-functional team, with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains conformance to Stage & Gate Process at all stages of development projects.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing, quality, applications engineering and sales teams as needed.
  • Ensures the protection of newly generated intellectual property (IP).
  • Participates in joint development projects with external partners, provides technical expertise.
  • Participates in key customer visits, team meetings, and activities related to engineering/technical elements of various programs.
  • Assists in research and development projects managed by other development engineers as needed.
  • Ensures conformance of new products to requirements, including but not limited to, customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Attends and presents at technical conferences. Tracks trends and developments in industry.
  • Participates in and contributes to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities.
  • Assists in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
  • Provides support to Innovation Lab personnel, including hands-on activities on complex test equipment, such as compressors or bearing test rigs.
  • Meets deadlines necessary to support the company's commitments to customers and stakeholders.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • 8+ years' experience in new product development, design, and engineering related to high tolerance components. Specific experience with valves is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new product ideas and develop solutions and utilize a systematic approach in all stages between concept generation and product launch.
  • Strong engineering technical skills, to include 3D Modeling, product launch methodologies, FEA and CFD understanding, quality, and testing.
  • Strong skills in advanced engineering analysis and tools to solve complex problems.
  • Previous hands-on experience and willingness to work with heavy machinery, compressors and other complex test equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with specialized design and simulation software.
  • High level of attention to detail and skills/discipline to resolve complex technical problems systematically.
  • Familiarity with the impact of the manufacturing processes and materials on the key factors that control the form, fit, and function of a valve assembly.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to be the main contact of the product line for customers and cross functionally internally.
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing sites, customers, and conferences; travel up to 10%.


ALSO GREAT IF YOU BRING/ PREFERENCES
  • Master's degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience in design, engineering, and development of other components in reciprocating gas compressors, such as bearings and seals.
  • Experience related to control systems.
  • Previous experience in a lead role for highly technical teams.
