This job contributes to Starbucks success by supporting the global corporate income tax provision and related processes, controls, forecasting, reporting, and analytics. The ideal candidate will support the global income tax provision, including preparation of supporting schedules, associated financial reporting deliverables and related income tax disclosures for quarterly and annual financial reporting under US GAAP. This role is expected to be knowledgeable in income tax accounting (ASC 740) and financial accounting concepts, organized and attentive to detail, and able to work cross-functionally throughout the organization to gather and validate necessary data. This role will support continuous process improvement and technology innovation efforts and will model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

As a senior analyst, you will...
Prepare and/or perform detailed review of key areas of the income tax provision, including:

o Effective tax rate and components of tax expense

o Tax account balance reconciliation and related journal entries

o Valuation allowance support and analysis

o Unrecognized tax benefit (FIN 48) analysis and documentation

o Scoping and risk assessment of reporting positions

o Internal and management reporting

o Financial statement disclosures (10-Q, 10-K)
Prepare effective tax rate modeling and forecasting in support of external reporting, executive/management reporting, and planning initiatives.
Ensure compliance with internal control documentation (SOX), appropriate accounting standards and policies, file documentation, and timelines.
Support various income tax teams throughout tax reporting life cycle (planning/forecasting, tax accounting, compliance, and controversy). Work with cross-functional peers to assist in reporting efforts.
Monitor changes in accounting, financial reporting, and income tax legislation and stay current on technical topics. Interpret changes to update income tax provision models and forecasts.
Effectively utilize available technology and internal reporting tools to gather and analyze data to support complex calculations. Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies to meet changing tax accounting and reporting requirements.

Basic Qualifications
Undergraduate degree

Preferred Qualifications
Accounting or tax experience in public accounting or private industry 3 years
Experience in income tax accounting and reporting for US GAAP (ASC 740) 3 years
Experience with accounting systems and processes; demonstrated mindset of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process improvements 3 years
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with cross-functional teams and with external auditors
Experience with multinational corporations a plus
Experience with tax provision software a plus
Certified public accountant preferred
Undergraduate in accounting, finance or business-related field preferred
Master's degree in taxation preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical tax information to both tax and non-tax customers.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; organized and attentive to details; ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong problem solving skills.
Working knowledge of internal controls.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with peers across the finance organization.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word
Proficient with tax provision and reporting software
Experience with or aptitude to work with systems and reporting tools including ERP systems, such as Oracle and HFM.
Displays initiative and has the ability to improve processes and document work performed.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
