Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: ~ +/- $116k--$170k (Negotiable, DOE)
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM
Travel: Typically less than 50%

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take on a leading role in our Cary, NC office. This position offers the opportunity to mentor and manage junior and mid-level mechanical engineering staff while working closely with clients to deliver exceptional services in the energy sector. The role also involves strategy formation, business development, and sales as we expand our energy transition portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of 3-10 mechanical engineers within the business unit.
- Provide engineering consulting and design solutions for energy-related mechanical systems, including thermal utility plants, cogeneration systems, and heat recovery technologies.
- Engage with clients to assess energy needs, develop conceptual plans, and oversee the full project life cycle, from exploration and development to execution.
- Develop and execute business growth strategies, exploring emerging technologies and new project opportunities.
- Contribute to proposal development, project execution planning, scope development, and cost estimation.
- Collaborate with Client Account Managers and sales professionals on key strategic pursuits.
- Ensure high-quality project delivery through design management and advisory services.
- Work in a hybrid model, with at least two days per week in the Cary, NC office when not traveling.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design and/or consulting.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in any U.S. state (EITs are not eligible).
- Strong track record of client engagement, relationship-building, and business development.
- Experience in strategy development and emerging energy technologies.
- Expertise in proposal development, scope planning, and cost estimation.
- Passion for mentoring junior staff and leading teams.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to potential federal projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thermal utility plants, cogeneration, heat pumps, and decarbonization planning.
- Prior experience in consulting, owner's engineering roles, or contract management.
- Demonstrated leadership in personnel management and business strategy execution.
