Description / Position Overview
Operations Manager - Golf

About the Job: In this position, you will have a true business focus on the operation of the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services' Golf Enterprise which includes Patty Jewett and Valley Hi Golf Courses. Striving for high quality playing conditions and excellent customer service, this position will focus on key business components including financial analysis and fee administration, capital investment in facilities and infrastructure, management of staff and contractors, and oversight of all maintenance activities for both structures and grounds.

As an Operations Manager - Golf, you will:
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and concession contracts in support of the Golf Enterprise
  • Evaluate and implement turf maintenance strategies to ensure the best possible playability
  • Develop and manage annual budgets
  • Analyze fees and recommend implementation schedules
  • Perform financial forecasting, analyses, and revenue projections
  • Provide overall management, resources, direction, and opportunities for both administrative and field staff
  • Coordinate capital improvement projects
  • Assist in the development of marketing and advertising programs
  • Utilize a high level of oral and written communication skills and participate in a variety of meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Respond to citizen concerns, questions, and issues
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to boards, councils and committees, e.g., Parks Board, City Council
  • Special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Principles, application, and practices of eco-friendly practices such as water conservation, integrated pest management (IPM), etc.
  • Principles and practices of research methods, data collection, and project coordination
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Modern office technology and supporting software with an emphasis on Microsoft products

Ability to:
  • Adhere to schedules, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in agronomy, golf course administration, business administration, or in a related field
  • Five years of full-time professional experience specific to golf course management including two years of supervisory experience
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
