Job Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Corporate Controller to lead the accounting operations of one of Kelso's HVAC operating companies. This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial reporting, as well as the efficiency of core accounting processes. The Controller will oversee a team of staff accountants and data entry clerks, manage internal controls, and take ownership of the company's project work in process (WIP) schedule, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), monthly reporting, and cash management.

Key Responsibilities:
- Project Work in Process (WIP) Management:
Own the preparation, maintenance, and accuracy of the monthly WIP schedule, partnering closely with project managers to ensure alignment with project budgets, costs, and percent-complete revenue recognition.
- Financial Reporting (GAAP):
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process in accordance with GAAP. Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- AP & AR Oversight:
Manage the full lifecycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable operations. Monitor vendor payments, collections, aging schedules, and ensure strong internal controls and efficiency in both functions.
- Monthly Reporting & Analysis:
Deliver timely and insightful financial reports that highlight key performance indicators (KPIs), project financials, and business trends. Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Banking & Cash Management:
Oversee cash flow forecasting, daily cash position, banking relationships, reconciliations, and ensure optimal liquidity for operational needs.
- Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor a team of staff accountants and data entry personnel. Conduct performance evaluations, training, and support professional growth within the team.
- Policy Implementation & Enforcement:
Establish and ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Systems & Tools:
Maintain and enhance usage of accounting systems. Manage and lead the implementation of the new accounting system (NetSuite), navigating the company through data preparation through go live in new system. Other system migrations will be included such as payroll and credit card provider.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA required or in-progress
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong understanding of GAAP, WIP accounting, and construction industry financial practices
- Proven experience managing AP/AR functions and monthly close processes
- Proficiency with accounting software (experience with construction-focused systems a plus)
- Demonstrated success leading teams and implementing process improvements
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Experience working in a private equity-backed company is strongly preferred, including familiarity with investor reporting, KPI tracking, and disciplined financial governance
