The Amazon Optics team builds and manages services that are used by AWS employees to secure our physical sites. Our services allow our customers to protect AWS locations and preserves the trust that all AWS users have in us. You'll work with other software development engineers every day that are as passionate as you are about building systems that are an essential tool for our customers in keeping AWS sites secure. The services you build are used around the world to secure assets for every single AWS customer!
Our team provides solutions where "can't be done" isn't considered an answer, taking on the impossible and finding creative solutions. You will stretch yourself and grow. You will share your knowledge with others and help others achieve. You'll be empowered to automate away operational efficiencies for both the team and our customers. You will be challenged to solve complex architecture problems with solutions that are extensible and scale, yet are dedicated to looking for ways to further simplify your solutions. You will work with the team on multiple products that are deployed to every AWS region using AWS services in a fully IaC deployment environment where you own everything end to end - design, development, testing, deploying.
You will join a team that values strong intuition, but seek metrics and other data sources to back up their assumptions.
Key job responsibilities
As the Systems Development Manager, you will create and lead the migration from hybrid-deployed infrastructure to pre-existing and new cloud access control solutions that manage hundreds of thousands physical security devices (e.g., cameras, badge readers) used across AWS data centers and Kuiper sites. You will own the continued automation and optimization of this global, multi-tenant product infrastructure for secure and safe delivery of our product to our end users across AWS, Kuiper and Corporate Security.
Core Leadership:
Deeply understand customer impact of our product to create optimal migration and support paths
Partner with software and support engineering teams to deliver distributed and resilient solutions
Manage and grow a team of systems and systems development engineers
* Develop career paths for systems and support engineers seeking to upskill to development
Deliver cloud infrastructure with high availability/reliability for tier1 cloud services
Automation Focus:
Drive a data-driven approach to system reliability
Establish robust incident management and response protocols
Build and maintain scalable audit mechanisms to find inefficiencies
Lead continuous improvement initiatives
Reduce toil through automation and engineering excellence
Cloud & DevOps Excellence:
Orchestrate CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
Optimize AWS cloud infrastructure using IaC principles
Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
Manage cloud security and compliance requirements
Business Optimization:
Champion cost optimization
Own capacity planning and resource utilization
You'll be the driving force behind our access control system infrastructure, ensuring seamless performance, minimal latency, and maximum availability for end users through migration and maintenance.

Amazon Optics is the singular enterprise security product integrating the management of three main sectors of physical security: Video Management, Access Control and Intrusion Alarming/Perimeter Protection. Optics further bolsters the security posture of our customers through AI Analytics. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience managing team of software or system development engineers across full product life cycles.
- Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure
- Experience in programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong background in programming with Windows .NET based languages such as C# and PowerShell
- Strong background in Windows Server, Windows SQL Server
- Strong background in networking administration
- Strong background in IoT system orchestration and automation
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders, and technical senior leadership
- Deep expertise in AWS services and cloud architecture
- Experience with observability tools and practices
