REPORTS TO: Regional Quality Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: Yes

SCHEDULE: On-Site Monday - Friday (8-hour shift)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, On-site.

The Quality Lead, under general supervision, leads and oversees the Idaho Falls laboratory and personnel. They are responsible for coordinating and supporting accurate and timely product testing to meet the needs of internal and external customers for data and information on process and product quality. The Quality Lead will perform analytical testing and manage sampling for microbiological tests on finished products and in-process samples. They will be responsible for entering all pertinent data into SAP. The Quality Lead will lead quality audits and investigations using CI tools and demonstrate excellent laboratory techniques. Assist the Regional Quality manager with technical duties to achieve departmental goals. Manage Ingredion Plant document management systems by ensuring all data, records, and documents. Also responsible for the internal audit process.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Ensure a safe lab environment.
  • Direct the workforce by planning, scheduling, and coordinating the laboratory's daily activities to ensure the accurate and timely completion of testing.
  • Have working knowledge of Quality Management practices (ISO, FSSC 22000, Kosher, Halal, etc.) and champion establishing best practices on site.
  • Knowledge of the Hazard Control System (HACCP) and the Food Safety / Food Defense systems, including Food Defense Intentional Adulteration Inspections.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records for compliance with retention and data recording procedures in accordance with all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Assess the current demands on laboratory services.
  • Prioritize testing based on business needs and departmental goals.
  • Maintain calibration records and standards traceable to NIST where applicable.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical reagents when necessary.
  • Ensure necessary laboratory supplies and equipment are available.
  • Oversee and administer the laboratory proficiency testing programs.
  • Ensure that special test analysis needed to support optimization of in-process parameters is performed in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Conduct Out-of-Specification investigations and monitor OOS trends.
  • Maintain document files consistent with the requirements of the corporate records retention policies and governmental records retention requirements concerning environment, health, safety, and quality, including FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001.
  • Responsible for initiating change requests within the Document Management System, identifying reviewers and approvers, maintaining traceability tracking during approval and notification of approval as per documented Change Control procedure.
  • Responsible for the Internal audit program, including organizing, scheduling, and collaborating with the team.
  • Environmental monitoring swabbing and records management.
  • Provide assistance to audits for compliance with quality systems as per customer, quality, and regulatory systems.
  • Revise and develop laboratory SOPs to stay current with scientific developments and customer and business needs.
  • Evaluate new analytical equipment and instrumentation methodology.
  • Evaluate test results to improve technician and instrument performance.
  • Identify, investigate, and facilitate the resolution of document deficiencies such as missing, incomplete, or incorrectly completed inspections, audits, and reports concerning environmental, health, and safety.
  • Work with logistics and operations to ensure timely product disposition.
  • Support performance management activities and site development efforts to enhance the talent capability and provide ongoing personal development of staff.
  • Train laboratory technicians on current GMPs, GLPs, ISOs, and standard test methods and procedures.
  • Work with operations providing technical assistance to identify, investigate, and resolve process discrepancies.
  • Review Out-of-Specification results with the Quality Assurance and Control Manager and implement the required corrective action.

Education and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, food science, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing a quality control laboratory within a related industry.
  • Ability to evaluate personnel needs/effectiveness and coach and implement effective development activities for staff.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry and chromatography.
  • Possess good working knowledge of laboratory practices.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • ISO 22000:2018 and FSSC 22000 lead auditor.
  • Must be available for some weekend and after-hour coverage as needed.
  • Experience in data control and information systems, controlled documentation, filing, and managing document processes and programs.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge in the use of MS Office, SAP, and Intelex.

Pay Range:
$81,680.00-$108,906.67 Annual

This pay range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final base salary will be determined based on several factors which may include but are not limited to responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data and applicable bargaining agreement (if any).

Incentive Compensation:

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Ingredion Annual Incentive Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus.
